Okay, so, say theres a family dog who has cancer or any other disease, and he is certain to die. If it is okay, and kinder, to put a dog to sleep, to save the suffering, and to let it die an unpainful dignified death without suffering and pain, why is human voluntary euthanasia illegal?? It really doesnt make sense to me that what is fair and right and legal for a dog is not legal for a human, and a human who actually wants it. The human who craves a dignified unpainful death is forced to suffer and die months later in absolute agony, while the dog got the better deal. Of course i wouldnt want dogs to suffer, but i dont want humans to suffer either. I think its ludicrous. Who agrees or disagrees with me? And why?

I agree. Euthanasia is legal in Holland. I have set money apart and have signed a declaration that if I ever was to become a vegetable I will want them to perform it on me. That is it. Do the same. Pass it on.

For the most part I agree with you. But what if they put the human "to sleep" and then a day later the family came back and said they made a mistake, or what if the person was just not thinking straight, or something along those lines. What if they put someone "to sleep" and then the next day they found a cure for whatever what was wrong with them, and that person could of lived? Plus, how many people would voluntarily kill someone?
But, I can see what you were saying. If they're certain to die, then might as well put them out of their misery. Especially since a lot of times it's harder for family and friends to see their loved ones go through so much pain then losing them, then just losing them.

First of all, very thought provoking question. I guess my answer is that I disagree with you. A dog is a dog. I suppose I come from a spiritual point of view. God is supposed to have control over who dies and when. Man should not take that in their hands. Even the extreme medical treatments bother me a little. I think we as humans would try to make someone live until they were 200 if they could. Sometimes it's just their time. I can understand wanting to end the pain, but why not refuse treatment (my grandma did that) rather than ask for deliberate euthanasia.

I agree with you and certainly wouldn't want a long drawn out death. However you have to look at the other side of the coin. Imagine an elderly person who's terminally ill, they might feel like a burden to their family and feel pressured into requesting euthanasia.

In a nutshell I think it is because people are more important than animals. Family and friends don't want to give up hope for the recovery of a loved one. An animal, not covered by health insurance, could be expensive to treat and they have a shorter life expectancy than humans. I love my dog but I would not keep her going at the expense of my family. However with medical advances I could not in good conscience give up on a human being that meant something to me. I belive to an extent in the will to live and in bad health some people can give up hope and do pass on.

Well I agree that dogs should be put to sleep because they can't talk and tell us what hurts and how bad it hurts. So instead of letting them suffer while doctors try to figure out the problem It's better to limit the suffering and put them to sleep. As for humans, If you or a responsible person says they want the doctors to do everything they can to save them, How is that forcing you to suffer? If you or the responsible person say " Don't resuscitate" then they won't. I don't believe doctors intentionally force people to suffer. I don't know where you got that nonsense.

I get what you are talking about its called euthanasia. I get and respect where you are coming from and I think that if people want to end their lives because they are faced with a terminal disease than they should be able to make that decision, whereas dogs don't have that luxury. Its just the order of things.

I totally agree. I think human euthanasia should be legalized. But here's the other question: Who would be responsible for deciding who was in enough pain to qualify? It opens up a whole new industry, really.

I think the difference is that some people would use this to their advantage to profit from a death, I'm sure there are some evil people out there that would use this law to get rid of unwanted parents etc who may be ill and a burden simply to be rid or profit from the will. With animals this isn't the case. people will not allow this for the human race simply becasue we do not trust each other, quite sad really.

Maybe if it was legal for human to die then people might abuse that system, ppl might kill someone for the wrong reasons and blame eutanasia, blame someone by saying she/he wanted to die, ppl might commit suicide more for the wrong reasons aswell but pointing out that they hate their life & want to end it by asking somsone esle to end it so that might become a problem, i do agree with you but you have to look at the bigger pitcuture, its sad & i wished it didnt have to be like this where ppl want to die or animals to die so they dnt ave to suffer, wish all living things can live life to the full without any problems, but hey thats in an ideal world aint it.
