I know we've all heard this little thing a few times too many, but what do you think about it? I think that would be a good thing if true; war wouldn't exist without religion.

I have been studying Wicca for the past 3 years. I first heard of it in a magazine I was reading and it just competely drew me in. I was 14 then (17 now). My family supports me, well my mom's side does... All that I have learned has been through many, many hours pouring over what few books I could find and what internet sources I felt were crediable. I have been trying my hardest to find a teacher or another more knowlegable person of the craft, but to no avail. I would very much like to find someone near me, or even a coven (although I do kind of like the solitary life, but it does get a tad lonely). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! :D I would even be extrodinarily happy if my teacher was only over the phone or internet.

There is much antagonism in the world today between the two camps of Christianity and Atheism, and it is reflected in miniature here on R&S. There are, however, two wonderful persons who show to me that both groups have far more in common than they do in differences.

I present for your consideration Ramjet and Thrice Baked.

Ramjet is a Christian, Thrice is an Atheist, yet both have the common qualities that make for greater good in this world of ours. Both are compassionate, intelligent, well-spoken, have wonderful senses of humour, and look for the best in any situation. Both are also my friends and have put up with my immaturity and patience-trying times. I love them both and know that they are one of the main reasons people are attracted to R&S.

A Christian and an Atheist, and both of them shining, outstanding examples that I think we should emulate. Their example is inspiring.

Let's show them our love and appreciation, shall we?

I currently teach college English. I love my job, but getting a full-time position is damn near impossible. So, I teach six classes, and I am considered part-time (adjunct). My paychecks are inconsistent and not guaranteed. I get stressed out and worn down easily, but I truly love being in the classroom.

I've been considering trying to get into the counseling/advising realm. But I'm being told more education is the key. But I'm in debt up to my eyeballs, I have a wedding to pay for, and I'm tired of planning my life when I'm already on the verge of 30.

I'd finally like to be in a position to pay off my debt with REGULAR paychecks. But everything I apply for jobs, people tell me I'm overeducated.

What the hell do I do?

Canadian government is going to ban these deceptive terms, although the U.S. government is dragging its feet on the issue.

Please consider this perspective about the fact that these women were forced to marry their rapist in the Old Testament Times. From the perspective of the 21st century, it is despicable to expect a woman to marry the rapist, but if you were in that time period?

Take into consideration the culture at the time that scripture was written and please frame your answer in that context.

It was an era where a women who was not a virgin had almost no hope of ever finding a suitable marriage and to be unmarried was a cause for shame...a woman could not have an abortion, and in that day a man could have multiple wives and the woman may end up pregnant.

As a woman in a culture where women had no rights, If you were in that situation in that time period, which would you choose? To remain unmarried with no means of supporting yourself, never to be married and to be shamed for not being a virgin, or at least to have the respectability of a marriage, even if it was to a person who hurt you?

I was pondering Em Adjineri's latest study ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070827183436AAqMeMa&r=w&pa=FZptHWf.BGRX3OFMiTxXVrg.GZpXHyzde3LlQXE0nwA_op4rgI2ddv9O2GSmMaeR_Chk_atIGyCCK8p7rg--&paid=answered#F8MmCze7VGV0DnGkhcTX9PdcmJI570qoBWXXp80.glaXcjQ515mh ), and something occurred to me. According to the highly respected and brilliant Kirk Cameron, bananas are the perfect shape for our hands, since God designed them to be. (That's also why the snake got into the garden of eden, god was busy on the bannana) In addition, we all know that monkeys like bananas. This is fact. Not some stupid theory. But bananas also fit perfectly in the hands of monkeys. Which means that monkeys must really be related to humans, since bananas are designed for humans. Since evolution is just a theory, how do we creationists account for this? I was thinking that maybe monkeys were Adam and Steve's love child all deformed and whatnot. What say you? Monkeys+Bananas=Evil-ution?

As a fairly new atheist, whats the best way to try and stop saying phrases such as
"Oh my God"

"Jesus"

"Holy Shoot(you get the idea there)"

It is a bit disturbing how deeply set in religious undertones are set in in this supposedly secular society.

And have a good look at the words.
This is a display at the infamous creation museum in Kentucky.
This is the kind of display that gives all Creationists a bad name. Is this display not actually glorifying the Creationists' primary weakness?

They are proudly saying that they do not need to listen to scientists and their 'evidence'. They do not need to read about evolution, philosophy, biology or physics. For all the answers for TODAY's problems can be found in a 2000+ year old scroll.

Does this not even strike moderate Christians as a teeny weeny bit, well, self-defeating?

I'm 15 years old and spanish is my first language, and i came to the US a few years ago, I go to school and do normal activities. The only problem that I have is that even though my English is very good, and English is the only class in which I get good grades I cannot get rid of my (thick) accent and I feel it is like a disability to me because people cannot understand me at all. It's so uncomfortable, even though some people seem to like it I just hate it. So, my question is: how can I get rid of it fast?
