I have been studying Wicca for the past 3 years. I first heard of it in a magazine I was reading and it just competely drew me in. I was 14 then (17 now). My family supports me, well my mom's side does... All that I have learned has been through many, many hours pouring over what few books I could find and what internet sources I felt were crediable. I have been trying my hardest to find a teacher or another more knowlegable person of the craft, but to no avail. I would very much like to find someone near me, or even a coven (although I do kind of like the solitary life, but it does get a tad lonely). Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! :D I would even be extrodinarily happy if my teacher was only over the phone or internet.

Probobly the best place you can look for Wiccan teachers or groups is Witchvox, you can find information about covens, teachers, and other Wiccans in your area on this website:

http://www.witchvox.com/xwotw.html

When looking at a coven, group, or teacher, always meet with people you do not know in a public place first and ask lots of questions. If something seems off to you something probably is. Like in any large community of people, there are at times bad ones, people who are lying or even just people who have read 2 books, have been practicing less than a year, and think they are a High Priest of Priestess. I HIGHLY suggest reading this document and using it to evaluate any group, coven, or teacher before joining.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask on this forum to email me personally through my profile, I am always happy to help.

Hi Raven,
Finding the right teacher is quite important to anyones magical training. If you dont mind sharing whereabouts you are based perhaps I can recommend someone or perhaps even a coven. I am a HPS of a coven currently and we are besed in the Campbelltown area of sydney, thats only if you are interested. We also run a wiccan store in campbelltown and the staff are always happy to chat with customers looking for advice or training. Either way, if you wish send me an email and we can discuss further.

There are many websites that teach the basics of Wicca. So much information is available to you on the internet or in "how to" books. If, however, you wish to experience the beauty of ritual with others, you can try Meet Up.com, and find local practitioners in your area. If you wish, you can become a member of my yahoo group, TheGoddessReturns(no cost) and feel free to ask questions, or search for recommended books from the other members. My Suggestion: Ask the Goddess and/or your Guardian Spirit for guidance. You'll get it.

You don't have to join a group to be social with other pagans. In fact, it's possible to reach quite advanced stages of belief and practice without ever giving up being solitary. Here are my suggestions:

--Read more. You won't find much at the chain bookstores, and some of the best books are hard to find small press offerings. Check Amazon.com for suggestions, then order through the closest pagan or occult bookstore.

--If you're having trouble finding a store, or other pagans for that matter, head to http://www.witchvox.com and check out the witches of the World section. You can also plug in the name of the nearest city and the word "pagan" together in the search engines at http://groups.yahoo.com and http://www.meetup.com . I also recommend the various communities at http://www.livejournal.com as being excellent ways of finding other folks.

--Practice, practice, practice. Books and teachers and groups can't do anything if you don't practice, and IMO practice is more valuable. You may screw up some, but groups and teachers can't guarantee a perfect path, either--and mistakes can teach us a lot.

Good luck!

sturdy success in Tennessee, my pal! you're smack in the midst of the Bible Belt, and maximum witches are going to be deep of their broom closet there. whether, test the Yahoo communities lists for pagan/Wicca communities, and notice in case you won't be in a position to nudge open the closet door fairly. could you agree for long-selection coaching? attempt the Druid/Wicca Coven or Abbotts lodge college of Magick. the two are run by employing a pair of friends of mine, and in case you have interaction their pastime, they are in a position that could be useful you.

How about reading 'From Witchcraft to Christ' by Doreen Irvine? That will tell you what Wicca is really about.

I use to be wiccan. I can teach you everything you need to know.

Wicca is a religion concocted by Gerald Gardner circa 1950. Prior to Gardner, there was no Wicca. Gardner's original Wicca was an excuse for him to be tied up and beaten by strong willed women, according to Adian Kelly, a Wiccan traditionhead and author of "Crafting The Art of Magic".
