I know we've all heard this little thing a few times too many, but what do you think about it? I think that would be a good thing if true; war wouldn't exist without religion.

*Slowly slides to the side and stares at his question.* Sorry, this question was directed to the people who say that there are no atheists in foxholes..

It's a bullshit slogan used by the religious right to make themselves feel better about dying, while attempting to make atheists feel worse.
It doesn't work.

I was an atheist in a foxhole during the Vietnam war. I knew bloody well that if I were to survive, it wouldn't be a god's doing!

Hello, Sergeant:
No war without religion? Guess they didn't teach you about the French Revolution that denounced religion and slaughtered so many thousands that they had to invent a guillotine.
Then there was the Communist land grab in Viet Nam and the attempt in South Korea. And let us not forget the cultural revolution in Russia where the atheists sold peasant's food to support their government and literally millions perished and entire cities emptied.
And the slave market to feed the fat Europeans sugar and tobacco that killed an estimated 50,000,000 Indians in the Americas and necessitated importing 11,000,000 blacks from Africa to work the plantations. In the name of God, or greed? You tell me.
God is real, and will not tolerate those who pervert His name. He has a Bible code that identifies the worst offender--bad times are coming. See http://abiblecode.tripod.com
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

The only veteran I've ever known (Vietnam combat vet) who addressed the famous saying said that it was true...but that's a pretty limited sample.
I think war would still exist without religion, though in my opinion there would be much less of it.

Having spent thirteen months in Vietnam, I can assure you of one thing. There are indeed atheists in foxholes.

War wouldn't exist without religion?
What planet are you living on? People fight for resources. Ideologies are just a rallying cry.

i think there has been plenty of atheists in fox holes. its just like when a life long atheist dies and they ( christians ) say he repented just before death its B.S. and with out religion man would have common ground and without man religion wouldnt exist . good luck to you sargent.

Statistical improbability. Such an absolute would only be accepted by an idiot.
