People can be quite rude. This happens to my children often. They are both adults now, but people would actually ask me if they were adopted! (NO, they weren't!) Not that there is anything wrong with adoption, but even if that were the case, it would be no ones business but mine and my husbands. The sad thing about it is that our son looks exactly like me. Only he has very black straight hair and his skin is darker. Our daughter looks exactly like her father. Only her skin is lighter and her eyes are green.
The truth of the matter is that America is a true melting pot and almost everyone is somehow mixed. We are just not sophisticated enough to take our multinationality in stride.

you are probably very pretty and have an exotic, striking look. I have bi-racial friends and family It and seems like they got the BEST features from their parents ethnic backgrounds. I don't think ppl are trying to be rude, (hopefully not) and its probably not appropriate to ask but you really must intrigue ppl.

You must have a unique look that people are trying to pin-point.

Try not to be offended by their questions, as people are generally curious. Chances are, they're trying to get to know you better and are using that question as an ice-breaker or a conversation starter.

Obviously your skin tone leads them to think that, people sholudn't ask that - but many people lack manners.
I have an odd darker skin tone as well - as I am constantly asked - are you hispanic - are you mixed?....
A fun response could be when asked are you mixed - say "Thanks for noticing - I am mixed - I am part trouble, part hard work, part fun"....or something like that.

Skin tone. Feel blessed. You don't have to work at getting a tan.

As that is a pretty impolite question, I would say they are asking because they are rude.
