I'll give you some choices Either answer A-G or choose your own answer.:
(A) I don't spend much time at all on God/beliefs. Nor do I care to.
(B) I believe God exists, and have my own completely private beliefs, beyond that I don't spend much time.
(C) I attend church weekly, but that's about it.
(D) I attend church plus other events (example-bible study) weekly.
(E) I spend a good deal of personal time with God on my own and will talk to anyone about God.
(F) I'm in a ministry or lead it.
(G) I'm clergy.

I wish that we could all just admit that these religions are fiction, so we can have some real fun with them. There is absolutely no reason to go around quoting JUST the Bible all the time...try preaching "With great power comes great responsibility"---Uncle Ben.

Or showdown between the "Deathly Hallows", Poe's "The Raven", and "Hellraiser". Come ON, people! Break out and let your creativity BLOOM! That goes double for atheists, why let reality rule your life?

You'll end up reading autobiographies and browsing Google Earth when you're old.

Granted, His ministry on Earth was rather short-lived, but He must have given many, many sermons in His travels and shared much insight and wisdom, even as a youth. Surely, He said much more than the few poetic, often inspirational words recorded in the Gospels. It is said that the Lord's Prayer itself is actually an amalgam of sayings, and not really a direct quote. I wonder to what extent He may have been misquoted from time to time, what sermons may have been overlooked or ignored, deliberately or otherwise.

What a pity that there were no camcorders back then.

The original pronunciation of YHWH was probably YaHWeH. This seems to be the case by examining Jewish names. Many names contain part of the divine name, i.e. yah, and by examing the vowels that they used to construct their names with the divine abbreviation attached, we can get a feel for how YWHW was originally pronounced. We conclude from the examining names such as Joshua, Jehoshaphat, Elijah, and even the word hallelujah (hallel=praise; yah=Yahweh), that YH was pronounced as yah. We also have evidence that Yahweh is probably the correct pronunciation from examining the Greek’s tranliteration of the divine name as iaoue or iabe.

Who was the first person to say that? Anyone know? I think it's a very good rebuttal, but I don't want to use it without giving due credit to the one who first thought of it.

I know many of you hate two scenarios:

A) Something looks like a interesting question, but alas, you click on it and there are 1,000 + Characters with added details which are all Bible quotes.

B) You are attempting to read the answers to one of your questions, but alas, someone answers with 10+ Bible quotes which you must now scroll through.

Can we please minimize this?

Can Bible quoting be done only if there is a QUESTION about the actual passage? E.g. You dont understand exactly what a certain passage could mean and would like R&S'ers input. I think this type of questioning is very valid and adds to the community's purpose as a whole.

We could name it Quote-the-Books Rule (QBR) instead to inculde the Torah and Koran to be fair, but I dont really see too many of those types.

Vote?

With the internet it is very easy to learn about science (going to ACTUAL scientific sites), politics, and just about anything. On top of that there are many different chat forums [and Yahoo Answers ; )] in which to engage in debate. There is so much to learn from, it used to be that you only learned from reading a book or from word of mouth, but now we live in an age where knowledge is broad casted over the internet.

Okay, so my mom 'old lady sits' one of our neighbors. She goes over there throughout the day and helps her with all sorts of stuff. During the summer I go over there with her and just watch TV (she doesn't even have cable). One day the lady called me over and told me to go in the other room and get some crappy toy that was her sons. I brought it back and she said I could have it. But anywyz, when I was in there I saw a bunch of other stuff that I thought was cool and the last times I've been over there I've been taking a couple things. Don't get me wrong, it's not a lot of stuff, just little things that I know she won't ever need, and more importantly won't know is missing. This lady doesn't know what's going on. Mostly it's just jewerly stuff, knifes, etc.

I told my mom about it and she said that Ms. Natalie won't be around for much longer and that I should just leave her stuff alone because those are her belongings and maybe she will leave us something in her will.

I am a believer in Christ but I still feel as though my life lacks purpose.

Like Bono from U2 says..."I still haven't found what I'm looking for."

Did someone make this rule and God just had to go along with it? Or did he himself make the rule? And if he did, could he not have simply changed it and say instead that he would create a new star and that new star would cleanse our sins? If not, why not?
Or did he simply WANT a blood sacrifice to appease him? And why did he send himself as that sacrifice? Is suicide not a sin? What kind of example is that?

Is there anything but sheer lunacy in this whole story? What am I missing?

...We're talking about theists who actually DEVOTE themselves to something that other people believe is COMPLETELY IMAGINARY!!! Isn't it amazing that there can be such a conceptual RIFT between people in a society? Just thinkin' about it...
