why dont they believe the church fathers and tradition as equal to the bible.

i know they lie about where the bible came from but they tend to do that about a lot of things, they twist the bible to make it fit their agenda (hence 35000+ denominations)

why do people accept it, i think in general a lot of people who got to evangelical churches are broken and maybe slightly crazy so they just like the group and stick to it no matter what.

still never get the blind faith without any truth

everytime evangelicals and catholics start to talk the catholics always come off looking more christlike.

is there ever a situation when the evangelicals dont come across as stupid. maybe its just the people on this board with their one sentence bibel quotes taken out of context.

maybe its the fact that a lot of fundie leaders are just lay people with limited education.

anyone else see that 905 of the time.

Personally I think that he's both. Anyone who would use such a lame argument as the "crocoduck" (honestly I thought it was a bad joke when someone told me about it. My first reaction was to say "there is NO way that anyone could be that ignorant of science could there?" Sadly I was wrong) can't be firing on all cylinders.
But what I want to know is; what motivates people like him? Why would anyone want to steer others away from science and reality? And instead lead them down the primrose path to a world of make believe and fairy-tales?
Or is that the point? To give people false notions about the world around them? To say "god did it" certainly is simpler, but it's entirely false.
Your thoughts?

the "Under God" when I said the pledge. If it were something like "Under Zeus," all of the Christians and Muslims would have an outrage. I NEVER say "Under God" when I recite the pledge, but it is unconstitutional. In fact, the U.S. explicitly acknowledged that it is not a nation founded on religion when it signed the Treaty of Tripoli in its early years.

Some of you know what I've been through, some not.

Those of you who do know the urgency of my need:
- the need for someone who loves and is loved.
- the need for a shoulder upon which I can cry my heart out over what has happened (as I have not cried since that first day - crying alone is the most heartbreaking thing I can think of).
- the need for someone to watch over me as I sleep, to help me get through the night.
- the need for someone to help me with this busted arm, an arm I busted up splitting wood for my family two years running because that was all that kept them from freezing to death.
- the need for someone with whom I can share the simplest of joys: wind in the trees and the haunting call of the hermit thrush ...

I hear "I love you" a lot, and every time I must translate it to "I feel sorry for you" or "I'm glad I'm not you".

Because day after day I remain alone listening to people talk about "love".

But a convenient love is not Love at all.

Been really looking forward to our camping holiday in cornall but everything seems to be going wrong. Is someone trying to tell us not to go?
First of all the awful weather and the M5 being flooded. Then the tow bar man said he couldn't fix the tow bar on because of rain, then new car developed a problem and is now in the garage. We can borrow a car with a towbar and go tomorrow but do you think we should after all that has happened? Would like to see what others think? would you still go or am I being silly?

I posted a while back about hearing footsteps coming up the stairs and no one being there, my dog running upstairs and lying down quickly, acting scared, etc. Some posted about hauntings and other things. My dog usually barks when people are outside, but when I hear the steps on my carpeted staircase, she only runs and acts strangely. (black lab/bordercollie mix) Well, the other day, I was making toast in the toaster oven. I watched it so it wouldn't burn. The bars were bright orange with heat as usual. When the bell went off, I took the toast out and went to unplug the oven as usual and it wasn't plugged in. I was stunned. I just stared at it...lol. It wouldn't have toasted if not plugged into the wall outlet. Anyone have anything like this happen??? (And, the oven is used everyweek, never a problem with it. It is an electrical appliance.)

"Jesus Christ Superstar" is a theatrical work that had an enormous impact on the way countless individuals think about the Christian messiah. Since popular entertainment and 'serious' literature can easily originate with and express the same basic idea or tuth, should its creators, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice, be considered among histories most influential theologians in the way that, say, Augustine and Aquinas are? If not, why not?

I don't believe Jesus mentioned it once. So is Paul's word more powerful that Jesus not even dwelling on it? Love your neighbor as yourself..........We forget Jesus words too often and rely on the hate mongering of Paul. Paul was not a very enlightened human being and he doesn't strike me as having an iota of the love that Jesus showed. No, I'm not a christian but I am well-studied. Why is Paul's message more important than whatever Jesus said or didn't say about homosexuality?

Catholics were started with Peter the Apostle as Pope. You can actually trace the Pope history back the this guy. Amazing!

Protestants were started by King James who had a track record of Adultry and Witchburning.

I'm an Atheist and if I were going to make a judgment as to who's going to be fk'ed in the afterlife (if there was one), I'd be that the Protestants were in deep crap.

is only so due to geography. Ok, of course there are a few exceptions such as the occasional convert to another religion, but for the main part if you were born 20000 miles east of where you are now you would have a different religion! Can you really answer this and tell me different? This is for the vast majority of people by the way so no need to point out what we already know.

maybe thats why they seem so elusive, so they try not to change history...maybe these "aliens" are just humans from the future that have evolved over millions of years...any thoughts? what do you think? (by the way, I dont really believe this, I just read this in a book and thought it was an interesting concept)

Well, I'm 23, and I just came out of a very serious 6 year relationship. I'm a Christian and he wasn't. I felt like it was something that I would have to work out because I don't know any good, Christian guys. I'm a college grad with a good career, and I need a man who I can have lots of fun with, but still go to Church with on Sunday. Do these men actually exist?
