I don't believe Jesus mentioned it once. So is Paul's word more powerful that Jesus not even dwelling on it? Love your neighbor as yourself..........We forget Jesus words too often and rely on the hate mongering of Paul. Paul was not a very enlightened human being and he doesn't strike me as having an iota of the love that Jesus showed. No, I'm not a christian but I am well-studied. Why is Paul's message more important than whatever Jesus said or didn't say about homosexuality?

Paul was a misogynist and his ministry was basically what NOT to do. Negative. I have no doubt that you are well-studied. Christians don't think you can be "well-studied" in their religion without having become a Christian. My husband is an ordained Christian minister who rejected it for Paganism. He knows more about the Bible than any Christian I have met. These attacks on your knowledgeability are merely from the sheep who believe what they are told and question nothing. The true analysts of the Bible are those who haven't been blinded by worship or had their brains addled by the fear of sin and hell.

Paul was a very educated Jew who was taught by the first apostles and potentially by Jesus during the time of his blindness, so I think this is where his authority came from on matters of Christian morality and theology.

Also, what was written to be said by Jesus is not the whole of His teachings. There was a great deal more taught by Him that wasn't recorded in the gospels. So it would be safe to assume that Jesus was questioned about topics like homosexuality and taught on it, but that it was not put in the gospels for one reason or another. That doesn't mean that His teachings weren't properly passed down from the apostles.

I think you should talk more about why you think Paul is not enlightened. You being buddhist I'd bet you'd have a lot of neat things to say. However, I do think Paul was more about love than condemnation. Unfortunately the effects of some of his teachings have been taken and used for the sake of judgment on groups of people who deserve a lot better.

Paul was obsessed with sin. Homosexuality, while mentioned by Paul in a couple of places, was not his greatest concern. His greatest concern was that believers would be in unity and love one another.

As to what Jesus taught, He went back to the book of Genesis to remind the Jews of what God's unchanging plan for human sexual expression was.

Matthew 19:4 He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh'? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."

I don't know why people seem to think that Christians have an obsession with homosexuality. Preachers don't usually preach much about things like homosexuality or murder because not too many people in their flock engage in those types of behavior. I'm not equating the two, just making a point. It seems like the majority of talk about Christianity and what the Bible teaches about homosexuality comes from either people who want to engage in that practice and who are seeking acceptance of that particular sin in their lives or from unbelievers who have the post modern secular humanistic mind set of this age where "if it feels good and doesn't hurt anyone else then go ahead and do it".

Why are non-Christians like yourself obsessed with constantly bringing up the topic of homosexuality to Christians? Paul and Jesus had the same Holy Spirit in them so their teachings were the same. Jesus had his mission and Paul had his. Part of Paul's mission was to deal with sin in the churches and to teach Christians the right way to live. And by the way, he was martyred because he loved the Lord and believers more than himself.

You seem to forget that Jesus stayed and ministerd within strong Jewish territories. He did not go to Greece or Rome or Corinth where such sinsfulness is prevelant. Therefore, Jesus had no need to speak on it at length like Paul. Also, I believe you do not have a good understanding of Paul. The man is very pastoral and compassionate. Understand this, when Paul is speaking about homosexuality he is speaking about the sinful lifestyle and not the homosexual themselves. He is quiet about homosexuals. He makes no judgement upon their orientation because he does not know its genesis. However, he does condemn the lifestyle for they are not living chastely. It is the sin he condemns and not the sinner. That is how your are to read and understand his letters.
There is more. However, there is not enough room on these things to teach. Still, let this little bit of information show you why one subject matter was spoken of more by Paul than by Jesus. Also, I hope it shows you that you have a mistaken notion of Paul. May the Lord bless and keep you. May the light of His face shine upon you.

How did you jump to the conclusion that Paul was obsessed with homo's!!!? IF he wrote Romans, then, there are 3 or 4 verses about it and that's it.

What evidence can you present that Paul was a "hate monger er"?? True, he was strong willed and opinionated; and wrangled with those who taught differently from him. But, someone had to comprehend and pass on the 'ideals' and the doctrine(s) of Christianity, and Paul was "chosen" to do just that.

Jesus was no soft, sentimental fool !! With unconditional love for all. He let the 'rich boy' walk away and didn't go running after him, He confronted the supreme court (of His day) to their faces, He got quite miffed for people diluting down what He was saying and He was very clear that 'the love of God and righteous living' are the sine qua non of being born from above.

As C.G. Jung said: when you see a woman who is full of resentment(s) esp. about men, who makes sweeping generalizations and who cannot discriminate facts - she is possessed by the animus.

The Apostle Paul mentioned homosexual activity in Romans 1:26-28 and 1 Corinthians 6:9,and yet he is accused of being obsessed with it? Jesus, certainly did not have a bucket full of rose pedals every where he went; as a majority of his preaching, was in condemnation of the sinful state of the heart of man and the warnings of impending judgement for those who would not hear him
Jesus specifically chose Paul, as his servant and messenger to the Gentiles and Paul's conversion was quite dramatic and very clearly spelled out in the book of Acts. To dismiss the teachings of Paul,is to blindly disreguard the Word of God,as he was the major mouthpiece to not only the Gentiles, but the greatest authority as to the inner-workings,expectation and behavior the the varying expressions of the Body of Christ(the Churches).(I do understand that there are, genuine Red Letter Christians) Paul was not obsessed with homosexuals, neither did he preach hate towards them, but rather admonished all men and spoke out against any sin that would prevent one from entering the Kingdom of God...He did so in my opinion under, the direct and divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Many Christians will not want to get involved in this discussion,as it is a great source of controversy, but I believe that EVEN those who are Pro-Alternative lifestyle, seem to be far more obsessed with the subject that Paul ever was. How many questions concerning the subject are ever Asked by a Christian on R&S...I may be blind, but in the10 monthsthat I have participated on the R&S forum ,have never seen even one. (only responses to questions, when backed against the wall)

Christians do not hate homosexuals,by the way... we are to hate all sin as spelled out in the Word of God.

I could see that happening before DADT went into effect, but since then, it could be considered a violation of DADT to do this. I've seen it in movies, but those movies were all made before DADT ("Full Metal Jacket", "An Officer and a Gentleman", and such), or possibly movies made after DADT, but takes place in a time period before DADT.

Of course Paul's word is more powerful than Jesus'; there are a handful of Jesus quotes, yet half of the New Testament is directly from Paul's pen.

Edit: Some of you are saying that Paul's word is scripture because Paul said it was.

Or because early Catholic leaders said it was. Those of you who think Catholics aren't Christians, how do you justify this line of thought?

Well Jesus says in Matthew 23:2-3 2"The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. 3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach." The law being of course the ones Moses brought down from Mount Sinai. In those laws, it does say something against homosexuality. Jesus was a teacher of love and how we should treat one another, ourselves, and how we should follow God. Paul was approached by Jesus sent by God to spread the word of immorality and sins that lead us further from God. If you feel the need to bash one of God's chosen servants to help you recognize sin, I'll pray for you.
