Something must have caused the big bang, and who else but god could have done such a thing?

2007-07-17 17:50:27 · 13 answers · asked by Super 5 in Religion & Spirituality

There are many testimonies of God's miraculous provison for people who tithe. There are just as many testimonies of God's blessing and provision for people who live shole heartedly for HIM without tithing !
Christians who live blessed and prosperous live without tithing are not publicized. No one has anything to gain by telling their story, so you hear nothing about them.
Something else that is not publizied is the number of people who do tithe regularly and are not receiving the financial provision that they should !

There are many things that affect the level of blessing and prosperity in a person's life. God looks at the heart. Sometimes people get an attitude corrected or mnove from unbelief to faith, which allows God to bless them, but they mistakenly attribute the blessing to something they have done, like tithing. When faithful tithers are not receiving a reasonable of financial blessing they are told that they are still missing it somewhere else in their life - rightly so

I'm an atheist living in the Bible belt. I've had numerous fundamentalists (mostly Southern or Missionary Baptists) try to convert me by showing me stories about people who had died and come back to life. The people say that they talked to Jesus, and saw hell, and have come back to life filled with love and fear for God.

Do they really think those stories are persuasive at all? I mean, every religion has these stories. For instance, Mormons have these stories, but when they talk to Jesus, he tells them that they need to follow the word of Joseph Smith. When they "visit hell," they warned against sins that most Christians never worry about. Why are their experiences less valid than other Christians?

Muslims, Hindus, etc.. they all have these same stories.

So why do people use these stories to convert people? When I hear them, or get handed a stack of the stories, I mostly just figure the person is a nut.

Why is it that alot of Christians confuse Jesus and God? The way I understood it(when I was christian) was that God is not Jesus, you have God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

So why to people treat Jesus as if he is God? To me God sent Jesus to fill a purpose a destiny. God is supposed to be the be all and end all.

This isn't new by any means, but I would like your opinions.

1. Do you believe God is omnipotent?
2. Then surely he must have knowledge of the future, yes?
3. Then we cannot have free will.
4. If we don't have free will, then our lives are exactly has he wishes them to be, at every moment.
5. Then all our actions are supported, and encouraged, by Him.
6. Then all our actions must be perfect.
7. Then, everything we do must be right and holy, including masturbation (uh oh), as we are supposedly created in his image.

Here is my take. Tell me what you think.
We have no control over the fact that we are all born with a sin nature so Jesus died for the sins of the whole world(all of mankind). So sin is not the issue. What seperates us from God is "our" choice not to have Faith in what Jesus did for us. So in short, God did everything for us to go to heaven. It's our choice to believe. The Bible says that God has even given all a measure of faith. If you have read this and have not put faith in Jesus Christ - please do - it's the best decision in life you will ever make.

I posted this same question before, but I feel I didn't get enough answers.

It just seems to me lately that, as a whole, Americans have become the rudest people of any developed nation.

I live overseas (Japan), and I don't know if it's the economic position of their country, their military power, or just their culture; but almost every American I see is really crass and rude.

For example, they expect everyone to speak English regardless of wherever they happen to be at the time. They also seem to excell at ignoring any local etiquette (I understand not knowing foreign customs). But they don't even observe common courtesy, such as waiting for all passengers to exit a train or elevator before boarding.

I just was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
What are your thoughts?

Why would one believe that when there is no proof that it does. There are no emotions when one planet slams into another and ends all life [if any] there. There are no emotions when any planet tilts on it's axis and kills most all liveing things. [if any] It is proven it has occured many times on the earth.

In an answer one wrote: "Did you know that your jesus is just a rehash of earlier, cooler gods?"

My question is this: Given that God exists (allow me this "fact" though you might not agree) and is good, would it not be logical for an evil being existing that would counter his plans? I say yes it is and the Devil is it. If that is the case, wouldn't it be logical for Satan, who knows God's plans, to provide the very "gods" mentioned in the above quote?

In order for you to go to heaven, you have to be a Catholic? So I have to drink up on holidays, baptisms, weddings and funerals. I also have to be molested by a preist? Pray to Mary and saints, when the Bible says that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. As a exCatholic, I have a more meaningful relationship with God as a Christian. If I had to go back, I would minimized my faith in the truth, and dwell in rituals and traditions.

I'm not trying to pass myself off as a saint (FAR from it...), but whenever I try to help people, they give me attitude for it. Really, what's wrong with people these days? Is the entire world so full of sh'it that they can't get past their pride? Is everyone so concerned about themselves that they think they are the ones in the right all the time? And when you try to stand up for what is morally right, you get flak anyways! Or is it just me...? Penny for your thoughts.

I read The God Delusion a while back and in the book Dawkins talks about a part in the bible where this man and his concubine stay at some house. Some men of the village come to "know" the visitor, but the master of the house tells the men to do their dirty deeds to his daughter and the visitor's concubine instead. The men end up killing the concubine.

Well, I was thinking about reading the bible, and as I was looking for my bible and I remebered that part of dawkin's book. I found the bible and opened it up willy nilly and my eyes fell right upon the passage about the visitor and the concubine.

It was just a coincidence, but I thought I'd ask you what you would take it to mean, if anything.

Or what about "Spreading the Word" I thought that 'spreading' ment to just...spread, not shove down throats...But why is it that I was nearly stoned because I said to someone "I don't believe in your God" as politely as I could...? Or the fact that my teacher nearly failed me because I did some "Atheist preaching" as in, I told the truth about peoples characters (as in, the preps were all sluts, the jocks were d1cks, etc.) Or that this one girl nearly got me expelled because I "harassed" her when the class was having a religious 'discussion' (which really means discrimminating against people with my beliefs) and when I went to outmanevur the girl (verbally, outsmart whatever) she cried to the teacher (don't worry...I wasn't incarcerated...) So how Christian is that, are they just not really Christian, or are they just a good representation of your religion?
