Voltaire, a French author, humanist, rationalist (1694 - 1778), held up a copy of the Bible in the air and smugly proclaimed,

"In 100 years this book will be forgotten and eliminated...".

Shortly after his death, Voltaire’s private residence became the headquarters of the Geneva Bible Society and became a major distribution hub for the very Bible he assigned to extinction.

I thought this was kind of funny.

(The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in
the United States, especially in the minority races.)
Allah or The Lord Jesus Christ? ... By Rick Mathes

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required
for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the
training session there was a presentation by three speakers
representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who
explained each of their beliefs.
I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.
The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete
with a video.
After the presentations, time was provided for questions and
answers.
When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked:
Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams
and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against
the infidels of the world and, that by killing an infidel, (which
is a command to all Muslims) they are assured of a place in heaven.
If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"
There was no disagreement with my statements and, without
hesitation, he replied, "Non-believers! "

Why do people hate some one because of there religion?! I'm not trying to be mean ok. just leave the subject of religion alone. And stop trying to push your your beliefs on some one. Let a person believe in what they want. If we keep this up some thing bad is going to happen.

Everytime someone asks a question about premarital sex there are always people jumping in preaching about hellfire and brimstone and STD's like its inevitable. Did it occur to you that maybe some people are actually smart enough to have premarital sex without getting knocked up or contracting an STD? Incidentally, these same fundies are the ones who are always preaching about abstinence education and wanting to restrict access to birth control. This kind of ignorance only increases teen pregnancy rates. Why can't people accept the fact that you're not going to stop teenagers from having sex and worry about how to give them the information they need to protect themselves?

Say it is discovered that a JW member was sexually abusing a child why do they go through their internal ex-communication system before it is reported to the police? They use a scripture in the bible where you need to have two eye witnesses to prove wrongdoing? Not sure where it is though?

I have heard of incidences where the elders decided the abuser wasn't guilty because of the two eye witness rule and hence they haven't reported them to the police or ex-communicated them from the congregation? Now I am pretty sure an abuser does not do it in front of anyone so how can they use that two witness rule to prove wrongdoing?

Doesn't it get depressing thinking that there is no point to all of what we do, and that we are nothing but animals with no souls?

I can't imagine being Atheist, I would probably want to commit suicide.

Fear is the mindkiller!
There is something about the Bene Gesserit I have to admit I do find appealing.
Hypothetically speaking, given the opportunity would you join.
Guys, if you know what i'm talking about, could you stand by while someone you love joins their ranks? It could mean more power, but it would probably mean you (as the belved of a Bene Gesserit) would be their pawn as well!
Hypothetical stuff, I know! Up there with applications to Starfleet Academy and Hogwart's.
But would you?

Is there any kind of a general message that all JWs share when they first meet someone?

2007-07-13 19:55:41 · 20 answers · asked by Anonymous in Religion & Spirituality

Should he keep the wives or divorce them? The truth is Jesus spoke against divorce except in cases where a wife commits sexual immorality but never spoke against polygamy....In fact in the commandments which He said to obey many times it says:
Deuteronomy 21:15
"If a man has two wives, the one loved and the other unloved, and both the loved and the unloved have borne him sons, if the firstborn son belongs to the unloved,
21:16
then it shall be in the day he wills what he has to his sons, he cannot * make the son of the loved the firstborn before * the son of the unloved, who is the firstborn.
21:17
"But he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the unloved, by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is the beginning of his strength; to him belongs the right of the firstborn.

So it makes provisions for men who have multiple wives. Its wrong for christian missionaries to go to Africa to convert them and tell them divorce their plural wives.

IMPORTANT: I will be adding notes because my entire question is over 6,926 characters, even with spaces. After about 60 seconds, refresh and the whole question will be there. When you see “::END::”, that is the end of the question.

I ask, "Well, if God (yes, the Christian God) knows what I’m going to do, how do I have free will?" I, personally, haven’t found an answer that makes sense to me. About 90% of the people say, "It is still free will, because you don't know what’s going to happen." I don’t think that makes any sense. Here is the definition of free will:

free will
n.
1. The ability or discretion to choose; free choice: chose to remain behind of my own free will.
2. The power of making free choices that are unconstrained by external circumstances or by an agency such as fate or divine will.
Basically, it’s just the right to do what you desire.

I've seen some here talking about how miserable their life was ......... - because of the church -
All LDS people that I have met, young and old are very happy people who feels good in church and thank our Heavenly Father and the church for their lifes because it has been great (I'd include myself like 97.9% in that group). Everyone has problems, even the most happy looking person, be shouldn't we just assume that we were not lucky enough or something went bad? why blaming the church?

If you were in one of these situations, say your story, what happened and how the church was involved in that bad situation.

According to the Bible, He did not replace any of the sacrifices...in fact after Saul became a believer and had his named changed to Paul he made sacrifices in the Temple:

Acts 21:26
Then Paul took the men, and the next day, purifying himself along with them, went into the temple giving notice of the completion of the days of purification, until the sacrifice was offered for each one of them.

Plus, if you read Ezekiel you will see that another Temple will be rebuilt and sacrifices are still commanded by God. The Law of God is forever and does not change.

I'm not christian, but I believe in some form of intelligent design. Question is: When God sent flood waters over the earth, he said it was to kill all living things, what about water creatures, like fish etc. I have an NIV version and it has explanations on the side bars, but it says nothing about this.

I heard this on some Christian radio today. The guy said that people should pray for themselves, not ask people to pray for you. Which made sense to me. Why do people do this and ask others to pray for them? Is there something that says "the more people pray...God hears the prayer better" Does God have a hearing problem?

"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 'The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do EVERYTHING they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.' (Matthew 23:1-3)"

WHO changed the rules and dumped the LAWS of GOD ?

What authority did they have if even the desciples were following the laws and telling others to do the same ?
