Lack of education..
I have told my kids I would like them to wait to have sex until they are older and established in life.. While at the same time telling them about birth control and disease control.. And providing condoms for their use should they choose to have sex..
My son had sex for the first time at age 17 (he used a condom even called me on his cell to be sure he had the proper way to use it down..
My daughter had sex for the first time at age 19.. She didn't call but asked several days before so she was sure she knew how to put a condom on properly.. (we even used the old put it on a cucumber for practical hands on application of the verbal lesson)
My youngest is 10 so still thinks boys have cooties and is therefore not inteested in sex yet...
Christians in my community told me for years my children would be sleeping around because I told them about birth control and provided it.. My children have each had 1 sexual partner (no pregnancy or diseases)... While the most vocal of the christians are now grandparents with on average 2 grandchildren... Their children with children are the same ages as my children 19 and 17..

Not all Christians think that it is impossible for people to not get pregnant nor contract an STD due to premarital sex. But not all teenagers are going to have sex, either. I think it is ignorant for people to assume that ALL teenagers will even want to have sex. That is the problem with our society. A mother and father out there is heartbroken that their 13 year old had sex, and they want to make themselves feel better and assume all girls are like their daughter. And their daughter is going to pressure her friends into having sex with their boyfriends so that she doesn't feel like the school slut. Again-not all teenages feel they should have sex. Nor do all adults feel the need to sleep around either.

They talk about STDs and inevitable pregnancy because they aren't getting any or are not enjoying it or are ashamed they ARE getting it and enjoying it or wanting it- and because telling teenagers, "I think you are going to hell - and I'm GLAD!" so pisses off other adults that they get afraid.
By the way - you CAN get pregnant and STDs from first sex - and even from sexual activity that doesn't involve intercourse. And running with scissors CAN be involved in terrible accidents, too. :)

>80 3% of human beings are Christian Huh? that provides me reason to doubt your first stat besides... As for the % of hypocrites etc. merely God knows. Morey: Claiming to be a Christian is common, easily being one is somewhat extra complicated. curiously the persons doing the polling you're gazing do no longer comprehend a thank you to distinguish. additionally having easily lived in the process the 60s and 70s i stumble on it very perplexing to have faith the p.c. of folk having premarital intercourse have been comparable to a techniques back because of the fact the 50s than they're now. I went to extreme college in the SF bay section (i.e. no longer precisely the bible belt) and ninety 5% of my fellow jocks weren't even claiming to have had intercourse in the 70s. think of how low the numbers ought to have been for the so-spoke of as geeks.

Read the Bible. Just because some people are "smart enough" as you say, doesn't make it right. The Bible says "thou shalt not committ adultery". That is premarital sex. Just because "teens are going to do it anyways", doesn't make it the right thing to do. Teenagers like me have enough morals and respect for ourselves not to do such a stupid thing. Even if you think you are being safe, yes there IS a risk. Yes you may get pregnant, yes you may not. YES alot of people abort those babies. Is that fair to the babies? NO. It's not even a little bit.

While condoms can reduce the risk of transmission of STDs, they "do not offer 100 per cent protection from STDs and unwanted pregnancy. [They] will not consistently prevent transmission of STDs passed through skin-to-skin contact - for example, syphilis, human papilloma virus (warts) and herpes."

So it is a form of Russian Roulette -- no, it is not impossible to play without getting shot, but the more you play, the more likely you are to encounter a bullet in the chamber.

According to the Bible, sex outside of marriage is fornication.
And only ignorant people, regardless of being so called Christian or not, think that ALL sex leads to pregnancy or STD's.
It the the very ACT of sex, not its possible aftermath, that the Bible warns about...outside of marriage,
Afte all, God INVENTED sex, and for a very specific reason. To produce children AND for pleasure...PROVIDING IT IS WITHIN MARRIAGE.
(Genesis 4:1) Now Adam had intercourse with Eve his wife and she became pregnant. In time she gave birth to Cain and said: “I have produced a man with the aid of Jehovah.”
(Genesis 4:17) Afterward Cain had intercourse with his wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to E′noch. Then he engaged in building a city and called the city’s name by the name of his son E′noch.
(1 Samuel 1:19) Then they got up early in the morning and prostrated themselves before Jehovah, after which they returned and came into their house at Ra′mah. El·ka′nah now had intercourse with Han′nah his wife, and Jehovah began remembering her.
AND THE WRONG THING;
(Judges 19:22) While they were making their hearts feel good, look! the men of the city, mere good-for-nothing men, surrounded the house, shoving one another against the door; and they kept saying to the old man, the owner of the house: “Bring out the man that came into your house, that we may have intercourse with him.”

Well the Catholics actively use the "Billings Method" to avoid pregnancy. As for STD'S that is plain silly to think you won't catch anything without using condoms even using them doesn't mean you can't catch anything!
