Doesn't it get depressing thinking that there is no point to all of what we do, and that we are nothing but animals with no souls?

I can't imagine being Atheist, I would probably want to commit suicide.

PS this is not meant to be offensive to anyone.

Humans do get depressed, but you are *very* offensive to try to pin this on a belief-set - You are UGLY. ... How do you like *this*?
"I can't imagine being Xian, I would probably want to commit suicide."... I would never say that to another human being!

No Atheists never get depressed. Oh but there is a point to what we do. We don't need to invent a fantasy to have a point to our lives. I don't consider any point to liveing for La La land of eternity. If That is the only point to your life then your life is useless. That would be depressing for anyone. Thats why so many Christians end up in the loony ben.

This is a pure coincidence, but I'm an incredibly depressed atheist on the verge of suicide. This has nothing at all to do with atheism though, and would not be any different if I believed in an intelligent designer. My situation shows that no matter what the religion or non-religion, people have feelings. That can't be helped, and it certainly doesn't vary at a measurable degree between religions.

The only depression I have ever felt is post -partum depression after having my 3rd child.... Several tests and hormone therapy solved the problem in a matter of months.. I no longer take the hormones as my bodys natural hormone production is working fine now as opposed to being completely out of whack right after my daughter birth..

One does not need a belief in a deity to find meaning and purpose in life.. One does not need to believe there is something after death to feel that life has meaning.. One does not need to believe in a soul to believe that people are important...

It would seem to me that you should be depressed if you wrap your whole existance and meaning of your life into a belief that there is a deity and an afterlife.. What point is there to living if when you die you go on for eternity no matter what you do here..

Well, that's your opinion and you're certainly entitled to it. Just don't project your own feelings on me as if I'm supposed to feel the same.
I get depressed from time to time (who doesn't) and it's usually about normal things in life but I always bounce out of it.
Sometimes I think about death and it 's scary, however I don't dwell on it. I got more important things to do while I'm alive. I'm happy where I am and to me, helping my fellow humans through various charities is what gives my life meaning. I don't do it for the hope of an afterlife either.

if you were atheist you would probably want to commit suicide?
I'm not sure how you meant that to be not offensive. Actually my life is great, I don't know why you think my life doesn't have meaning just because I'm not following the advice of a 2000 year old book. Yes, atheists get depressed sometimes, but so does everyone else

Really? So saying that if you were an Atheist you would probably commit suicide isn't offensive? Interesting logic you have there. It might actually explain why you believe in a God in the first place.

I get depressed but not from being an atheist. Just other things. Xians (christians) get depressed too, I've seen it and so have you probably.

Well it is offensive...offensive to mankind.
Isnt it depressing to do something in an effort to get to a heaven rather than the sheer fact that you look at the guy next to you and think "hey I want to make this guy happy"
To me thats utterly selfish and depressing.
