As a J.W. of 17 years standing, I am glad to answer your question.
1. Birthdays. they are not celebrated because there are two mentioned in the Bible, and they both turned out bad.
Genesis 40; 20-22 and Matthew 14; 6-10.
And Jesus never ever mentioned his birthday, even though others considered it a blessing to humanity, which it was, Jesus stressed it was more important to remember his death.
At birth no one has achieved anything. But by the time you die, hopefully you would have achieved much.
(Ecclesiastes 7:1) A name is better than good oil, and the day of death than the day of one’s being born.

As to joining organisations. God does have one on earth and it is the one obeying all his commands.
Matthew 28; 19,20....letting people know just what the Bible does teach.
e.g. Using God's name. Exodus 6;3
Jesus stressed it all the time. He never said it was TOO Holy to use.
Your example of the Salvation Army. They do a social work, but they do not preach.
(Psalm 68:11) Jehovah himself gives the saying; The women telling the good news are a large army.

Once a person is told the Good News, and acts on it, they no longer need handouts. They act and work for themselves.
Too many recipients of S.A. charity continue to drink alcohol and smoke to excess, and continue to hold out their hand.
As to sports organisations...They all involve competition, with one person or team trying to 'best' the other. apart from killing each other, not that much different from countries armies going to war against one another. There is no 'love' involved.
As to voting...J.W's have already voted for God's incoming system. No human system can better it. To vote for a politician would be to put him/her ABOVE God.
By the same 'token', J.W's obey all the laws the politicians make, because of ;
(Romans 13:1-2) Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. 2 Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves.

Because of our faith in the fact that the Bible says that this present ' system of things' is doomed to destruction, we place no emphasis on trying to advance IN THIS SYSTEM. We wait patiently for the NEW SYSTEM.
And it is NOT on a cloud in heaven.
IT IS ON THE EARTH...WITHOUT DEATH AND SICKNESS.
(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

(Psalm 37:9) For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.

(Psalm 37:11) But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.

(Psalm 37:34) Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].

JWs shop. I know this for a fact.

I am certain that JWs are *not* allowed to join the Salvation Army, and alternate religious group.

JWs *are indeed* allowed to vote. I know this for a fact. It may have been the policy *prior to the 70s* that they were not allowed to vote, but I know from a WatchTower article I read (I believe it was dated in the 60s, but maybe 70s) that they are certainly allowed to vote.

I looked at the page. Mostly true.

Important falsehoods:

JWs *do* consider Jesus their mediator and savior

Most "shouldnt's" are false.

Musts:
...study with family not a must (if family not JW or not living in same house)

...Associate only with fellow members not a must, but you are supposed to avoid (not ignore) apostates and seek the company of JWs over non-JWs

...Women must be in full submission to their husbands - trust me, the opposite is more often the case.

Jim, not a JW, but well aware that they are Christians

Avoid acronyms -
"JW" stands for Jehova's Witness. It is always best to spell it out.
Every religion has its foibles.
Hindus can't eat Beef, Catholics must eat Fish on Good Friday etc. These things keep the flock in line!!
