I'm looking for short, inspirational teachings/proverbs/quotes from different religions about starting over, beginning fresh, letting go of the past and moving forward, making changes in one's life. This is for a New Year-related talk.

If anyone has any favorites that come to mind, I'd very much appreciate hearing them. They don't even have to be strictly religious in source -- philosophical wisdom is good, too.

Thanks!!

Where would you go? What would you do? What would you talk about? Would there be a second date?

(Not necessarily a romantic date). Use your imagination.

Okay. I am like, white, and I guess I have been always hvaing crushes on white guys. Not racist, but hey, they were what i was attracted too. Now this new thing...I am not into white guys anymore. I am into indian guys. Like, darkish skin, beautiful accents, thick black hair... I realyl wonder is this just a phase. I thought so....but now I'm not sure. I mean, I am currently in a relationship with Saavan, my bf, who I have been attracted to more then any white guy. I am definetly not racist to whites----I am white.
I am not trying to be racist to ANY race.
But what do you think. I suddenly think the indians are beautiful people..they're languages...traditions...........

Do you think this is a phase, or something that will stay?

God did say Satan was running things here.
What a great con. What a smart, sadistic plan.
God did say Satan was the master of cunning.
What do you think?

If God doesn't want us to go to hell, why doesn't he make it really clear that he exists? And no dirty cop-outs like "He already has!" or "Read the Bible!", because I'm being serious.

If God put a billboard on the moon saying "I exist and the Bible is true", who wouldn't believe? This wouldn't be infringing on free will - it would be simply verifying that the Bible is true and then letting us decide what to do with that information.

According to the Bible, God loves us. He doesn't want us to go to hell, yet he can't make us believe because that would interfere with free will. Can't he give us a better reason to believe than a book that's lain dormant for thousands of years? Is that really so much to ask? Or is it that he needs us to believe without any kind of proof or recent evidence? And, if so, isn't he putting His needs above our own?

yes sorry its another persecution question. they complain about being persecuted for this and that... but the bible states

Matthew 5:10
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

shouldnt they be on their knees praising god instead of on their feet whining to man?

It seems like everyone always is doing everything possible to make their life longer, to avoid dying. Its funny because awhile ago I asked a question on here of "Do you want to live forever" or something like that... I was shocked at how many people said "No"...... But yet, if I was to say "Ok, then pick a day that you are going to die" nobody could or would want to do that. It is our natural desire to want to live. What is the cause of Age and Death? Most everyone agrees that it is because of the first man and women, Adam and Eve. They were perfect, then they sinned and caused sin and death for mankind. Romans 5:12 reads: "That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned." So where should we put our trust? And what do you think our TRUE HOPE is???? I have scriptures to support my views, but what do you think?

I don't get it. If God existed forever, what made him decide to create the universe when he did? The timing was right? That makes no sense, since there was no time until God created that also. Why didn't he just wait another godzillion "years" to make the world? What difference would it have made?

I love Muslims because some of the greatest contributions to science and society came from them.

I love Hindus because of the kama sutra (sorry, don't know much else about the religion. There are many I'm studying but this is one point that stands out in my mind for some reason...)

I love Buddhists because they are very peaceful, have good ideas, and are generally 'good' people. They care for others and for the world.

I love atheists because they are some of the greatest scientific minds out there.

I love gay people because they are simply people and they need love too.

I love all races because it shows the great diversity and uniqueness that God gave us.

I love Pagans because they feel the awesome power inherent in nature and they care for God's creation.

Point is, through these people, God can teach us many things.

Don't hate on your neighbor... Love them and learn from them. This is the christian way.

Everyone contributes something.

I hear lots of talk from Christians about micro-evolution existing but macro-evolution not existing (like they are two different things). Their evidence is that one "kind" has not been observed changing into another "kind".

Christians, what do you mean when you say "kind"? The meaning of that word is defined by humans, not by some pre-existing principle. I'll get some response like "a dog is a kind and a cat is a different kind". Well, what about a wolf. Is that a dog or a different kind? What about a fox? How is a fox or wolf different from a dog?

There are no KINDS. There are merely closer or farther relationships between organisms. The difference between a golden retriever and a shi tzu compared with the difference between a retriever and a human is a difference in degree, not in type. If you keep breeding dogs, eventually they will look so different that by your definition they would be different kinds.

when people answer a completely funny or off the wall question seriously?

I can't tell you how many times I have answered nonsensical questions only to see people trying to answer them seriously.

Are they naive or just seeking the points?
