Forget Japanese cars, they have no image, you will look like a boy racer.

If it's image you want, get a DeLorean DMC-12
You could get a Porsche 911 (930) but that is just a passport to an early grave
A TVR?
Ferrari Testarossa (for the full Magnum PI look)
BMW Z3M
Ford Focus ST or RS
Ford Escort RS Cosworth
Dodge Charger
Dodge Viper
Chevrolet Corvette
Jensen Interceptor - these things absolutely fly!
Mercedes 500SL (older version, looks better and is built better)

Hmmmmm. I bought a Ford sierra cosworth. they are fast and reliable. I start smiling when i get into it and dont stop until I lock it away in the garage. BTW. I am 60 years old and have had the car for about 10 years and still get the same rush as I did the day I bought it. You should see the little boys in thier hot hatches as I leave them standing. They dont believe that a "wrinkly" coffin dodger can have a car like that and drive it better than they could.

Has to be a sports car if its a proper mid life crisis. Therefore the best option would be a Jap import 2 seater job. MR2, Celica, Mitsubishi FTO etc etc. These will be considerably cheaper than there British equivalent.

if you have around £20,000 pounds to spare buy yourself a classic Ferrari from the early 1980's. They would still have the speed of a modern sports car and be a bit more daring as the are not packed with modern engineering. Great fun

Mustang. They have several versions, some of which are quite reasonably priced. If you don't pick too fancy a package you can get this really cool-looking car for an affordable cost.

All I can offer is a quote I came across recently that I wish I had heard 20 years ago.

"Live in a house you can't afford to live in and drive a car you can afford to throw away!"

mk 3 Toyota supra. the 3 litre non turbo sells for around £400 (soz don't know what country you are in). I absolutely love them but the insurance is still a bit high for me (I'm 24). even if you don't like the look of one take it for a test drive loads of fun guaranteed
