You can tell by these answers that The Prince of Peace is far away from the hearts of these Christians. Love others as you would love yourself is indeed a challenging message, and these days it has been conveniently left out of Bible Study. You either do it or you don't; there can be no exceptions for political expediency. Sadly, the faith of the early Christians, who would willingly go to the Roman Coliseum and die for the Truth of their faith, has faded, and is now replaced with the politics of fear preached by the likes of Pat Robertson. Turn the other cheek has been replaced by "do unto others before they do unto you."

You asked this question three months ago and I am inclined to answer it now as I did then w/ some slight modifications, but nothing that changes the heart of my original answer. The problem isn't whether prayer works, its whether you believe it when it does. I will confidently say that at some point on any given day in Iraq for at least one hour there was no violence, and I would even go further as to say that there were people who prayed for that hour our more of non-violence.
So even if the fighting stopped for at least an hour...how long will it take man to start it up again? If they start it back up, then what was the purpose of stopping it? Since there was no violence for at least an hour over there are you ready to believe that God had something to do with it? Since He put up will you shut up? My guess is no you won't in either case and instead continue to ask rhetorical questions thinking you have come up with a way to shut Christians up because you asked a question that cannot be answered, but one can surely hope.

Its strange that you don't believe in God and you want us to spend 1/2 hr in prayer. What are you doing to bring peace to the world. You blame everyone else because there is not peace in the world, but then you get on Yahoo, and scream at people. You are a hypocrite. This world will be a mess until Jesus Christ returns, Satan is having his day for now, but that will end, so take heart in that.

If prayer were a "magic spell" or God a "genie who has to grant three wishes", then it would be possbile to immediately stop the killing in Iraq.
By prayer is the means which which we learn and confirm to the will of God, not a means by which we control or manipulate him. We can pertition him for our needs, but the answers is not always "yes". Prayer is subjected to his will, not ours.
Nowhere in scripture does God promise that he will stop all killing or bring world wide peace. Rather he promised to bring deliverence from and victory over evil. Sometimes that requires the death or destruction of evil and evil people.
Does payer work? Yes.
Does the magic charm of rabbits feet and genie wishes you want to see work? No.

Try looking up the studies on prayer and recovering in hospitals after illness and injury. It is pretty convincing - showing prayer works.
Stoping killing in a county - that is a bit more complex. Not to mention freewill of millions.

Prayer works if you have faith and you ask for things that are in accordance with his will.
Challenge: Read the first 3 chapters of John and then say there is no God. I dare you! YOU PUT UP or SHUT UP!

hehehe, more anti christian.religious speculation.
I think the killing will stop one day. And the appearance of jesus will destroy all things that offend. The bloodbath of all winepresses will be unfolded in a day.
The need to answer your hypothetical premise is dead already in your unbelief.
However, Faith without works is DEAD. a person who prays for something must also work to bring abouts it certain end.
Very few people pray for correct things and i dont think there is a combined collective prayer that can undo the will of God.
If one man had authority or FAITH to move a mountain, No collective army of men prayiing to undo such faith and authority to stop it from falling on the armies of heathen and pagan alike. therefore it could ONLY be God who could undo such a terrible historical event.

Sure you can. the Bible says if you pray and have faith you can move a mountain. That sounds a lot easier than simply pausing the killings in Iraq. You dont have to have others do this for you either. Im sure if this is your hearts request that God would love to hear it from you directly.

Prayer is to God. He is in control. I cannot stop anything. I do continually pray for Him to protect our troupes, which He does do. If anyone is killed, then it is their time to die (read Ecclesiastes). I believe that maybe this war is God's plan for the beginning of the end.

Somehow I am thinking that if I came to you and forced you to do just as God would have you do all day you would scream blood murder. You would scream about how I am forcing God on you, you would hate it. Then because you disagree with the way someone else runs their life you want God to rush in and stop them.. HYPOCRITE! Jim
