I am a traditionalist. My Christmas season is about the birth of Jesus not the gifts or decorations so much that my children do not recieve presents at all. The greatest gift I have ever recieved is hearing my children telling their friends that Christmas is about the birth of Christ. I feel like I have passed down this to my kids and one day my grandchildren will also have this in their hearts. I am so blessed.

I'm Jewish, and honestly, Christmas doesn't make any sense to me. It's basically just the pagan Roman holiday of Saturnalia, combined with a few other pagan traditions. The bible makes it kind of clear that Jesus wasn't even born in winter. And why celebrate the birth of the messiah with commercial ventures?

I don't mean this to be insulting to anyone, and I'm sorry if anyone is offended. I'm just kind of confused.

I have reached 36 and have never come out of the closet in my home town, despite having relationships from the age of five. I have tried fighting with my feelings of being gay and made my life miserable by hiding it. I had a relationship with my best friend and we ended it after he called for me one day and I felt discusted with myself, telling him never to see me again. I regretted this action and still regret this now. I also punched a guy I realy fancied when he came onto me in army cadets and told him leave me alone. I tried dating girls but knew I didn't feel right with them at all and I wasnt being fair. I am filling my life with regrets because of the way I am and I am lying to my family and relatives as I don't want them dissapointed with me. Despite the chances I have had with many georgeous men, I left myself stay single and ashamed. I am lost and don't know what to do. I didn't ask to be gay, but I know its in me and I always will be. Please advise me?

Whatever you thought of America before Sept. 11, does it still hold now. Is the American Ideal that you grew up with still there?

Do you believe America is better or worse at living up to the Ideal set down in the Declaration of Independance and the Constitution then it was 25/50/100/200 years ago?

Explain why or why not.

(Now is the best time to think about these things--no election, no political debate, no news coverage attempting to sway opinion (of course they try to sway opinion, its how they keep customers), no national crisis, just life as it is on Christmas Eve.
