I am a traditionalist. My Christmas season is about the birth of Jesus not the gifts or decorations so much that my children do not recieve presents at all. The greatest gift I have ever recieved is hearing my children telling their friends that Christmas is about the birth of Christ. I feel like I have passed down this to my kids and one day my grandchildren will also have this in their hearts. I am so blessed.

Because people use to be family oriented and gifts were frugal so the meaning was there. People cared then, but now families are not as close because of having to work many jobs to make ends meet. Also retailers, who now must make quotas, bombard the airways with expensive gifts for kids saying that your kid NEEDS these things. The closest thing to the original idea of Christmas can still be seen on movies like The Bishop's Wife (the one with Carry Grant not the remake), Miracle on 34th street (Again the original) and It's a wonderful life. Due to all these years, people are more concerned with image and NOT hurting their Children's feelings, and forgetting what was real. For those who claim it is a pagan holiday: Early Christians had two separate dates for the birth of Christ. Since there was much bickering about it, the Church's higher ups decided to choose a date that would (like the name Catholic) be a universal date. They chose the 25th. Not because it was a pagan holiday (that day falls on the 21st and 22nd) but because it was around that date and was an easy draw if they were to begin pulling the pagans into their fold. They did similar to Easter and took all hollows eve and turned it into all souls day. The idea is similar to the idea that the vail between our world and the spirits are easy to commune with.

I am a traditionalist without a heavy political agenda. My Christmas season is about remembrance of things past, nostalgia for childhood and unforgettable visits from Santa Claus, and trips to Grandparents'.

I am a Christian. I love the Nativity story, and religious songs. But having been the normal little kid once, I can NEVER remove the commercial influence and the toys and gifts and fun from Christmas.

Peace

Christmas is the day that Jesus was born. We celebrate that most often by giving gifts to one another . This is done to symbolize the gift of Christ.
we do this on the 25 of December but i think we all know that we may well be off on the day and year but none the less we do have to mark it one day a year so the 25th it is.
in many ways i think that we are not celebrating the birth of Christ as much as we are thanking god for the gift of Christ.
i think we thank Christ more so on Easter.
i know Christ and god are the same one in the Trinity but i think that is how it really goes.
i hope everyone who reads this knows that they have got a gift
on Christmas and to unwrap it you just have to open the bible and your mind body and soul .then you get the gift

I know you think you're doing the right thing, but a lot of the joyful memories for the kids would be the decorations, cookies, etc. The gift part should be about the giving, not the receiving. I love it when I give someone a gift they really love. My daughter & I baked cookies together & passed them out to the neighborhood.
