Cause he had his dates wrong. But make no mistake, he will come back. God took care of the date mixup, and I am told that Jesus is coming back eventually.

Happened on a few occasions. They saw him in the glory of the transfiguration. They were still alive when Jerusalem was destroyed, which was the first fulfillment of Matthew 24. And John, in vision, according to Revelation 1:10 "Came to be in the Lords day" when his kingdom power was established over the earth.

Thanks for the verse reference, I thought maybe you were referring to what the Lord told Peter in John 21.
No, it is commonly mistaken that Jesus was talking about His second coming in this reference. But he is talking about His resurrection. He essentially re-established the Kingdom of God for mankind in His death, burial and resurrection (to as many as receive Him).
This is really more than I want to get into right now, but an excellent book that will forever change the way you read the Bible is, "When Heaven Invades Earth" by Bill Johnson. Excellent book. It will pretty much answer all of your questions regarding the Kingdom of God.

Please note that it is written at the end of Chapter 16.
The very beginning of Chapter 17 talks of the transfiguration.
That was what Jesus was referring to.
Some had a chance to see Jesus "in kingdom glory."

Illusions of grandeur? Making the people feel important? Once a person dies-he cannot come back.

He made a mistake? Maybe something came up and he had to postpone. Hmmmm, prophesy that doesn't come true - that's odd and yet nobody's upset, eh?
