I have a lot of hindu friends, and know mos of them are vegetarians or vegans. Some eat all emat except beef, rather discreetly. I am going to entertain some hindu guests and was goig to make a vegetarian entree, but then thought of this:

I understand cows are sacred so no beef; but why no chicken or other meats, and why no eggs?

It's yet another thing that I have been thinking about... I want to find purpose, and (as you can see from my past questions) I am slowly realizing that there is a purpose to life... How do I find mine? What can I give to human beings? Is there anything I can do to make this world a better place? Do these sound like rhetorical questions that are seemingly impossible to answer? Do I have a purpose that nobody else can fulfill in this world? Am I the only person who feels like I was destined for greatness, but I can't figure out how to do it? How do I release the best of my talents into a worldly gesture??? And please, no Jesus Phreaks....

Christianity does not interest me that much, because I was raised Christian and already know a good bit about it.

I want to know more about other religions and their god/s or deities and there beliefs. Does anyone know of some good websites or books about various religions or specific religions?

I just want to learn more about the religion. I don't want to be preached to in a book or at a site; that irritates me. I just want information.

From what little I know about the Eastern religions, I find them to be interesting. The concept of reincarnation especially interests me.

A book which is recommended does not have to be strictly information, it could be a story with a lot of useful information about the religion. I read Herman Hesse's Siddhartha and liked it.

Don't forget about mythology and the ancient Greek and Roman beliefs. (I personally recommend anything Joe Campbell has done to those interested in mythology.)

And please, no mud slinging!!

I do not hide the fact that I am pro life. So people confront me occasionally. They always mention rape and women who would die if their children were not aborted. So now I am asking you. Are these people citing the 1% to justify the 99% or are these seemingly extreme excuses for abortion more common than I knew?

Of course we are talking as far as rights and workplace equality, but some seem to want it to be for more. What I don't understand is the preaching of equality in all sorts of life then turning around and telling a young boy, that no matter what the situation or what is going on, to never lay a hand on a girl. Yet these same people tell a girl to never hit anyone, but always defend herself specially against boys wether they are physically touching them or not. So obviously there is no equality there because boys are being told to be passive submissive when dealing with girls, even if they are being attacked by them, yet girls are being taught to be defensive in all situations no matter what. The thing is when someone brings this up, they argument that boys are stronger therefor should not hit comes up, but when a person says boys are stronger than women therefor should do the heavy labor, the complaint about equality and women being able to starts to arouse. It's one or the other.

I don't feel that christmas feeling. christmas has become commercial. and buying gifts is not what christmas is all about. It's supposed to be a season of miracles, being with family. one thing I've wanted to do but never seem to have the time is to volunteer at a homeless shelter. these are the forgotten people.

i mean its human nature to offer a passing glance. but what is up with people who stare relentlessly, their eyes following you wherever you go. looking at you from your head to your toes. or they watch you closely when you put food in your mouth and then when you say hi they turn their head. do you think its rude?

it says in the beginning god came to earth. didnt create it. he came and the earth was in chaos. he corrected that chaos. the wind the land the animals whatever but he created man in "his" image. so we're watered down versions of god a living being. read the begining of the bible. oh and a fact you may have not known. moses written genesis which in hebrew means begining. that was on the mountain moses was on for 40 days.

Last night an atheist posed an answer to me that was very good and brought the issue to mind of why Christians serve God.
If you are a believer, you believe that God is real. Since God is real to you, God has attributes and has done things that make Him worthy of your genuine love. IF YOU ARE A BELIEVER, WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION IN SERVICE TO GOD? If you serve God to
get yourself into Heaven, or to keep yourself from going to hell, then you really dont serve God genuinely out of love for Him, you are looking out for #1. The point the Atheist made was, if you are not serving God for reward, or to keep from going to hell, what is the point in serving God? THE IRONY OF THIS IS, CHRIST SACRIFICED HIMSELF FOR US, AND MANY PEOPLE ARE ONLY SACRIFICING TO GET SOMETHING FOR THEMSELVES.
NO WONDER MANY BELIEVE CHRISTIANS ARE HYPOCRITS. I THANK THE PERSON WHO WOKE ME UP, I SERVE GOD BECAUSE I LOVE HIM, WHETHER THERE IS REWARD OR NOT. AMEN.

My mum is in her 40's and I don't know what to get her for Christmas. She's not fond of bath type stuff, and im not so good at finding he a gift she'd like.
