I see many atheists here sending questions saying that theists are "brain-washed". Who gave you the right to make such a judgement? As a Muslim I believe in God, and I know that my Christian and Jewish friends do too. I admit that I grew up, and raised to believe what I believe, but when I reached an age where I can think by myself, I was convinced, by using my mind, that I'm on the right track. I could have turned an atheist, but I didn't, and that's because my mind guided me to theism. So we're not "brain-washed" as you may claim. We have minds and we use them! I do believe in much of science, and many quotes of my religion encourage me to learn and seek knowledge. But denying, for example, human evolution doesn't make me brain-washed. Because on the other hand, insisting that it's (Evolution theory) so correct is also "brain-washing"! I'm not bashing you, belive in whatever you want (Or "unbelieve"), but let us believe whatever we want too. It's a type of freedom after all.

Why was the pagan festival of Halloween embraced so enthusiatically in the USA when such a large proportion of the population are fundamental christians?

Also, why has the UK followed suit but only in the last 15-20 years? We have always celebrated Halloween here, but it was never this big and commercial.

Houdini died on October 31st, 80 years ago.
he is best known for debunking fraudulent mediums.........literally hundreds of them in his career.......but his interest was initially in PROVING communication after death was possible, it was only the fact that he repeatedly saw mediums using stage-magic tricks that swung him towards skepiticism.
Wheh he died, in 1926, he left a coded message with his wife and asked her to hold a seance every year on the anniversary of his death. in 1936, his wife admitted that - after many seances - no one had given her the coded message.

My question is to Spitualist and believers.......why did this person - with a supreme interest in mediums and after-death communication - who desperatley wanted to prove the reality of after death communication - never contact his beloved wife and give her the code which would have given her, and others, so much comfort?

I read many answers here claiming that Islam punishes this woman! That's plain ignorant. Islam doesn't say to a raped woman you must get 4 witnesses, or else..!
Here's the real thing:
A woman who has been raped cannot be asked to produce witnesses; her claim shall be accepted unless there are tangible grounds to prove otherwise. To insist that she provide witnesses is akin to inflicting further pain on her. If anyone refutes her claim of innocence, the onus is on him to provide evidence, and she may simply deny the claim by making a solemn oath, thus clearing herself in public. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The onus to provide evidence falls on the one who makes a claim, and the one who denies (the same) can absolve himself or herself by making a solemn oath to the contrary.”

Second, the punishment for rape in Islam is so harsh, now many people see rape as the worst crime (Even worse than murder sometimes). Here:

As for a spouse who witnesses his or her partner committing adultery and the other party denies it and they are unable to provide witnesses, they are, if they so desire, to part company by repudiating each other by engaging in what is known as a solemn oath and prayer of curse (li`an). It is described thus in the Qur’an: “And those who accuse their wives, and have no witnesses but themselves, then the testimony of each of them shall be a testimony sworn by God repeated four times, that he is indeed truthful. And the fifth (oath) is that God’s curse be upon him if he is lying. And it shall avert punishment from her that she testify a testimony repeated and sworn by God four times, that he is lying. And a fifth (oath) that the wrath of God be upon her, if he has spoken the truth” (An-Nur: 6-9).

I am a 14-year-old transsexual boy in the United States. I haven't told my parents that I want to start taking hormones, but I am sure I want them. When I was young, I always cross-dressed. When I was 9 or 10, I told my mom "I want to be a girl". She obviously didn't take it seriously, and pushed it aside. Now, as I develop more, I've realized that I want to be a woman. How should I tell my parents? Also, what is the earliest age that I can start taking hormones?
