It does give a person the power over a mind, just the element of suggestion.

The first thing that any hypnotherapist will tell you is that all hypnosis is self hypnosis.
The mind can (in an oversimplified way) be divided into the consicious mind, that's the logical part of your mind that you use to control how you act, what you say and the choices that you make. However the consious mind is influenced by the subconscious. This is the part of your mind over which you have little control. It's where irrational fear (phobias) come from and other deep emotions such as love and disgust.
When a person is hypnotised, they choose to let their conscious mind rest for a while so that the hypnotist or they themselves can communicate directly with the subconcious part of their mind. This is not a process that can happen against a person's will. In fact it takes a lot of concentration and will power to allow yourself to fall into a trance. The concious mind does not like to be pushed aside because it is the part of you that keeps you safe from your deepest fears and desires so the subject must focus and relax to allow the hypnotist to work with them.
As for acts in the pub and TV shows involving hypnotism, the subjects in these situations are natural extroverts who wnat to take part and enjoy the attention of the crowd. They feel liberated by being allowed to 'show off' with the excuse that they couldn't help themselves.
The government does not use hypnotism as a weapon generally because as I have already mentioned, a subject must be willing in order to fall into a trance.
Hypnotism can be used against a prisoner who has had classic brain washing techniques employed upon them. These are most unpleasant and include depravation or over exposure of the senses which weakens a persons will to resist the ideology which the captor is atttempting to instill.
So yes, hypnotism is real but I think that you have the wrong impression of what hypnotism is. The type of hypnotism that you suggest in your question does not exist.

Hypnoses: not about controlling minds, but its just telling you what to do.
By agreeing before hypnosis, you atomically decide that you are going to do what the person tells you to do. Without agreeing, the hypnoses won’t work at all.
About the government: they just brainwash some people, either to withhold the truth and tell lies, that happens all the time or they make promises to the country they can’t keep.
‘’Vote for me and I’ll do this and that’’ whatever!
It happens here in RSA, they promise houses for all the poorest people, because the population of these people is so big it’s more than half of South Africa, then they vote and 4years later…most of them are still waiting, so the next election they just bay lots and lots of KFC and make new promises and hey! there it happens again!
SAD BUT TRUE!

nope hypnotism is not a sure thing because if a subject doesn't want to be hypnotize u can't no matter how "good:" u are and even if u want to be hypnotize u still have control of what u wanna say or do, between the psychologists this is a true debate but most of them are agreeing in saying that u can't truly and fully hypnotize someone and control them through this method.

If you're familiar with hypnosis, then you've no doubt heard of Master Hypnotist Steve G. Jones. His book, "Ultimate Conversational Hypnosis" has been voted as the best hypnosis course ever made. The book is also available in electronic format at: http://www.hypnosistocontrol.net
If you want to get an edge in everyday communication and lead other people towards your goals this is a must read.

I have been hypnotised twice on stage, once by paul mckenna, I did everything he said without question, no doubt about it, I was under his spell, 2nd time was a set up, the hypnotist told me what to do and say backstage before the curtain went up. So yes it works but there are fakes. All hypnostism does is remove inhibitions, you cant be made to do somthing you know is wrong, its not mind control its just the power of sugestion
