I agree with your wife. I wouldn't participate in such "celebrations". I'm glad your kids go to Islamic School as do mine but they are still exposed to it and I feel like we need to talk to them about it before they learn about it from others who may think otherwise about it.
I myself went trick-or-treating as a kid and our family, unfortunately, wasn't too informed about Islam at the time. We just called ourselves Muslims. Alhamdolillah, later on in life, we started practicing (I stopped trick-or-treating in grade 7 some 13 years ago) and now I feel happy we did. In this day and age, we need to have our children develop strong Islamic identities. NOT religious intolerance, however. That would be that last thing I would want my kids to form. That's why there is so much hatred in the world already. Anyway, they need to know who they are and where they came from AND what is loved by Allah and is prophet (pbuh). The practices in Society today are very conflicting with our beliefs and it leaves the kids very confused. Especially now where many Muslims are veiwed as "terrorists" (men) and "oppressed" (women) which we are not. I remember as a kid being ashamed of my religion and I would hide any possible Islamic Identity because I worried about how kids would react. There was no need for that. But I think I had that in my mind because I didn't have the confidence in my practices. I just wanted to blend in...which, in public schools, is quite disasterous. I knew more about Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc more than I knew about Hajj, Umrah, Ramadan, Eid-ul-Adha, Eid-ul Fitr, and worst about our Prophet (saw).
By you passing out candy on this day, you're showing you kids that it's ok to take part in this Pagan festival. Did you even know when this celebration started? 2,000 years ago by the "Celtics" from what is now Ireland. I wish I could write more but I'm limited here in my answer. If you're interested, I can email you the historical details. Anyway, just remember...
"Whoever imitates a nation is one of them" (Abu Dawud).
You know what I do, we just turn off all the lights that are visible from the streets in your house. They almost never come.

Muslims do not and really should not have anything to do with Halloween, since it was originally a pagan celibration. It was All Hallow's Eve, the day before All Saint's Day. It was celebrated mainly in the British Isles but moved to other northern European countries and was spread to US, Canada, Australia, etc. by immigrants. At this time it was also changing more into a childrens holiday of going door to door threatening tricks (mischief) if treats were not given to them.

Halloween is a fun time for every one, lets not think of it as a Christian or Muslim point of view shall we, for as long as I remember we always go out with kids and look at the different decoration, kids go knock on doors for candies and have fun, they dress differently and paint their faces and a responsible adult accompany them, there is nothing more, kids never ask if it is a Muslim or Christian holiday, for them all matters is having fun, and we also celebrate our Muslim holidays too, lets not corrupt our kids by making faith a big deal a good Muslim will not judge some one based on their religion, I don't want my kids to close the door on the neighbor’s kid just because he is a Jew or Christian, you are forgetting the fact that Islam means "peace" so try to have fun and go out with your kids in Halloween and have FUN. do you see anything wrong with that, dose it make me a weak Muslim because I am celebrating Halloween, dose it make you mad because I am being a Muslim trying to keep peace between me and my Christian (or other religion)neighbor, then we have to go back and red the holy Quran and see if it says anything about hating other religions, see if it says anything about not respecting other religions, specially the religions of people of the book, the religions of brothers of Muhammad, (Jesus, Moses, Abraham and other prophets PBU them all).

Salamaleikum:
I come out every time someone wants candy and Say I am sorry we are muslims we do not celebrate Holloween what do you do?
Mashallah your wife is right. My husband feels bad for the kids frankly so do I but.... You have to denine what is more important deen or popular practices?
to me that equates to Christians would you celebrate Ramadan?
For Muslims: Would you say to Christians do you celebrate Ramadan? then why ask Muslims about Holloween?
My guess is most Christians would say no!

I think that if you have kids born in the western world, there's a lot you'll have to say no to as they grow and mature. They might as well learn things that they will not be allowed to do. Otherwise, how will they except a no when they're older and asking for something not as simple as candy.

Halloween is just an American tradition and doesn't really have any relevance in Islam. I just do what i normally do in the evenings and maybe enjoy the horror films that come on.

Where I live, most muslims don't even know when halloween is. They will just pray five times a day, as usual, saying Allah hu akbar, and many more.
