I am a 14-year-old transsexual boy in the United States. I haven't told my parents that I want to start taking hormones, but I am sure I want them. When I was young, I always cross-dressed. When I was 9 or 10, I told my mom "I want to be a girl". She obviously didn't take it seriously, and pushed it aside. Now, as I develop more, I've realized that I want to be a woman. How should I tell my parents? Also, what is the earliest age that I can start taking hormones?

i don't have any idea about how to talk to your parents about this issue, but i do know that you can't start any hormone treatment before the age of 18 unless you have their consent.

you can go to your doctor at anytime and they will see you with out your parents
but the doctor may ask or want to tell your parents but they sshould not unless you are there or if you have asked them to
i am not sure about in the US but the nxt time you go to the doctor try to go in by your self and just spill your beans to the doctor
i have been told you can start hormone treatment before your a eighteen but it is not the full doses
ask your doctor they will fine out for you
some times parents thin it is just a stage you are going though your mom might have thought this when you say it the first time
i would go to some sites that i will give you and show your mum what you find
if she still dose not believe you see your doctor your self find away as your will seems strong and there fore there is a way
always be true to your self

you will need to see a doctor for the hormones, taking hormones can be very dangerous and only a doctor can perscribe the correct amount for you to take. as far as telling your mom just be honest with her and maybe have something printed out to show her

I don't know about the hormone route...I think you should be talking to a professional about when to start these..they can be dangerous chemicals.....as far as your parents go ...this may take a lot of explaining...try getting help from PFLAG or some such parental support group before confronting your parents.

THIS IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT QUESTION.
If you are totally honest with your parents, and they are able to understand, the best time to start hormones is at puberty. Even today, it's a major deal to get there. Parents are easy. The problem lies with shrinks. Many will not help. And you need their help at your age. Do your homework. Find a psychologist who deals with transgender issues. Please contact any of us who have reasonable answers, cause we'd love to help. And sometimes, it won't cost you for the psychologist's help.

From My understanding there are few doctors that will prescribe hormone therapy to someone who has not finished growing(to full adult size).
