I make an effort for my children as they enjoy Halloween very much, also Xmas and Easter. I decorate the house with them and make it fun for them.

stop being so cynical !!! Halloween is a very old festival, and it's only seen as 'naff' because the commercial sector aim their produce at young kids. don't be such a grump ! anyway - Christmas and Easter are worse for the 'naff' factor than Halloween is !!! at least all the Halloween hype only lasts a couple of days, not like Christmas and Easter... they last for months....... i much prefer Halloween

The people that make and sell the 'scary' stuff, the police that get overtime stopping frightened old grannies from murdering little tike's for covering their homes in eggs and flour and alike and stealing from them, the cleaners that make money cleaning it off, the robbers who have an easy night of demanding money with menaces, pumpkin growers, costume makers, charities and party organisers; not forgetting alcohol manufacturers and retailers, solicitors and barrister's.
Halloween has become another consumer driven Americanism in the UK, all the best aspects lost to all the worst. I actually heard someone the other day talking about keeping with tradition whilst talking about the AMERICAN tradition of 'trick or treat' (or as they play it around here: 'trick AND treat, or 'money with menaces!
OUR traditional Halloween, albut forgotten but worth remembering, as for what passes as Halloween celebrations now? Under ten's only I think.
Humbug (or something similar).

No i don`t kids walking round in the dark, not all are accompanied
by or with an adult, with about three to four children knocking on the door at a time and if they like what they get, they come back later with different mask`s on.May be it`s because I've become an old fogey or we never did Halloween when i was a kid i don`t know.
My wife buys all the goodys for our visitors and puts them all in
little paper sweet bags, then guess what asks me for the money

All the holidays can seem "naff and over the top" because to the retailers its all about making money. I love to give out candy and see the kids in their costumes and the expressions on their faces. Holloween Parties for people over 21 can be a real blast too. get dressed and check one out...you'll be surprised.

I do and I'm nearly 50, my hubby and I had our first date on Halloween 25 years ago today so it will always be special to us and worth a celebration, the kids love Halloween and that's nice as some of them don't have enough fun in their life as it is these days.

Christmas is one day, not a season; I resent the way it starts in October. Everything has become an excuse for anyone to churn out tat and sell it to us. Valentines, Easter, Mothers Day; all the original meaning has been lost. Its taken all the fun out of holidays.

Yes ! ME ! I'm 45, I take the day off from work, make the house spooky, carve jack o lanterns, got tons of candy. Then at night I take out my little guy and go trick or treating, I LOVE HALLOWEEN ! and always will, it reminds us of the innocent child in all of us ( at least in me anyway), cute little spooks who worked hard on their costume to scare you the best, so you give them lots of candy, I spend a lot on Halloween, I have the best house, give out the best Candy, flashlights, blinky lights, light sticks, (for the little ones out at night trick or treating), toys, noisemakers, cookies, Halloween cider (for the parents), Don't forget to drive slow, the kids are all nutty from the candy and sugar, and are running between parked cars to get to the houses faster.

Its the snotty nosed kids round my area that i dont like. They terrorize our neighbourhood in their stupid costumes and if you dont give them a treat they hurl abuse at you. I told them i hadnt got anything so the little shits climbed into my garden and tried to steal my pyjamas off the line!
It is naff and over rated. Just another money making stunt
