I see many atheists here sending questions saying that theists are "brain-washed". Who gave you the right to make such a judgement? As a Muslim I believe in God, and I know that my Christian and Jewish friends do too. I admit that I grew up, and raised to believe what I believe, but when I reached an age where I can think by myself, I was convinced, by using my mind, that I'm on the right track. I could have turned an atheist, but I didn't, and that's because my mind guided me to theism. So we're not "brain-washed" as you may claim. We have minds and we use them! I do believe in much of science, and many quotes of my religion encourage me to learn and seek knowledge. But denying, for example, human evolution doesn't make me brain-washed. Because on the other hand, insisting that it's (Evolution theory) so correct is also "brain-washing"! I'm not bashing you, belive in whatever you want (Or "unbelieve"), but let us believe whatever we want too. It's a type of freedom after all.

When we're a few months old we form a very strong trust for our parents, on whom we rely completely for food at that age. As young children, many people lack the ability to objectively consider what their parents tell them. If you were raised as a Muslim then chances are you were told from a young age that Islam is truth. Your parents probably made no distinction between your religion and other, observable truths. So while you may have given the matter further consideration when you were older, you had probably already formed a very strong belief that your religion is fact. While consciously you sought the truth, subconsciously you desperately wanted Islam to be that truth. That's what we mean by brainwashing. I believe freedom of religion to be one of the most important aspects of any truly free society. In my opinion, however, freedom of religion is only achieved when children are not presented with religion as fact.

Fine but as you theists started the fight then up to you to stop bashing 1st. But I expect it will never happen.

And as for the judgement I can tell you that 9 out of 10 times it comes based on a response to a real question being "Because God blah blah blah" making it clear there was no thinking ever done just an acceptance of what was said by the "leader".

When I was a child I was taught to spell and to leann my mathematics tables "parrot fahion." I'm pleased to say that it worked but I also realise it was a form of brainwashing. I have seen documentries of religion being taught to small children in much the same way so you have to ask yourself if you think those same children would have the same beliefs if they had never been subjected to that. That doesn't mean I think you have been brainwashed; merely that you should maybe question where your beliefs come from. I absolutely respect your right to believe whatever you wish.

Don't worry yourself too much about the names they call believers. I was concerned about it when I first came to this site. It is really a feeble attempt by some of them to make you question your belief system. Not all atheists on here are like that, the ones that really want to discuss things aren't generally offensive in their question or responses.

I don't know what do u mean by athiest, but religionist are brain washed into believing in the unknown. This universe does not require god to function the way it is functioning. All books/teachings are contradicting & to explain they cite miracle & let me tell you miracles never happen. Its only laws of nature anyway this is not the forum to discuss in details.

What made you think that it is you who made the choices and not the bug implanted in your brain?

lol. Seriously, brainwashing sounds a bit too far-fetched to me. Which atheist said that you were brainwashed, anyway? That sounds more like a conspiracy theory than an atheist belief to me.

No I don't think believers are brainwashed. I just draw a different conclusion than you do from the evidence around me.
