Say you call on a God, but you use the term Spirit. Who would you be communing with. If you felt the presence of something other than yourself comfort you, fill you up with euphoria and bliss. Who or what is this?

What would you think if you got an invitation in the mail to someone you know's sixteenth birthday party barbeque and they asked for money instead of gifts. Is that tacky?
(I want to save money for a car!!!)

This sounds crazy but my prediction is that there will a market in future for "words" so that you can own/patent the new words you create. In th past, physical products were first to be patented followed by copyright intangible items (like software, songs, writings). The next to be patented will be words just like your name which is patented in your birth certificate/ID/passport. In future, you can license new words so that those who use it will have to pay you a fee. It sounds ridiculous rubbish but remember Einstein once said that we cannot solve problems with same level of thinking now. What seems crazy today will be not be so crazy in future.

This is in response to another question. Would you rather have someone preaching to you, or have someone informing you of their beliefs, and teaching you about what they believe and why.

I ask because some people see them as one and the same. I feel that preaching (especially in a forum like this, or on a one-on-one basis implies a level of judgement on the preacher's part).

Opinions?

A lot of the kids are asking and answering questions using the cell phone shortcuts of i's, u's, and ur's, etc. Although this may be cool and neat, I'm sad to think this is the result of our education system. Kids: this Yahoo site is an opportunity to use those grammar, spelling and puncutation rules you learned and hated. If you go for a job and express yourself this way, they'll never take you. Why not talk to the public using English, and talk to you friends using i's and u's? Comments?

I don't dislike children in general, I simply find it intolerable when a parent knowingly brings a child (who is prone to crying, yelling and generally "misbehaving") to a public place like a restaurant, the movie theatre or any public place where a quiet atmosphere is appreciated. Children on planes are even worse because they're guaranteed to cry as the plane is climbing to a cruising altitude and you cannot simply exit the plane like you can a movie theatre or restaurant. I generally blame the parents for assuming everyone else will be complacent with their undisciplined child.

why do parents think the world revolves around
their children.

I started this tradition back in 1988 when I began to live with my Grandmother - the coolest, funniest woman in the South. I gave her a pair of disney thongs, which she wore over her pants on Christmas day, backwards. The folIowing years I proceeded to give her Homer Simpson slippers, a moo cow fishing hat, deer antlers to wear, a fake rat that squeeked in the bag before she opened it, sexy lingere, and since she loved pigs feet, a tiny stuffed piglet with the eyes x'd off and the feet cut off attached to a jar of pickled pigs feet.

She's grown to expect these gag gifts and looks forward to them each year, but I'm running out of ideas. Also, other family members have begun to steal my idea and try to upstage me by giving her a sexy bathing suit - which she wore. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

Reading the "In memoriam" ads like :" Dad, 5 years away now. We will always love you" always make me think; Do people really think that their departed loved one reads that paper? Why would they want to advertise it to the world?
