It's not wrong.
If you're talking in terms of a relationship with God by means of Jesus Christ, then desiring riches for any reason is just dangerous ground. For a Christian, only a desire to walk with God is a safe place to be. When a person truly has a vital and living relationship with the living God, then they know He knows what's best for them.
For instance, the thing I live for to do with whatever money comes into my hands is support those who are preaching the Gospel, the whole Gospel, and nothing but the Gospel. If there is a witness of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in their life, I want to support them - in prayer, in finances, in whatever way they need support so that they can concentrate on doing what God has called them to do.
So you'd think since I'm so into this, I'd have 10 million dollars, right? The way I see it is if God could trust me with 10 million dollars it would be in my hands at my disposal. Thankfully, He cares more about my soul and about seeing that no destruction comes to my soul. He knows me. If having that kind of money would lead me away captive to some thing that would destroy my soul then I appreciate that God is keeping me from that. However, if there is some immaturity that prevents me from having an abundance of resources to be effective in bringing good to this world - including taking care of the poor and needy - I want God to change this about me so that He can trust me with more.

Matthew 19:24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

It is wrong to desire anything that is not God's will for your life. God may supply a faithful person with resources to do certain jobs on earth, but if those resources are not utilized for the purposes they were intended for, it is wrong.

Be careful what you wish for-you might have the means of doing good but you will also have the responsibility of making sure that you use it wisely. From he who is given much, much will be asked.

As long as you have no problem giving them up in order to do good as well. If you can't do this, then you couldn't handle the wealth in the first place.

Even though Jesus was poor (He born in a family of carpenter), He has done good to people.
