What would you think if you got an invitation in the mail to someone you know's sixteenth birthday party barbeque and they asked for money instead of gifts. Is that tacky?
(I want to save money for a car!!!)

I worded wrong!
What if instead of putting it on the invitation, when people asked me what I wanted I would tell them I wanted money for a car.
Is that better?

I think that is very tacky to ask for money instead of gifts, The point in having a birthday party should be to have fun celebrating with your friends not to have a reason to receive!

It's not tacky. Wouldn't you want money instead of some lame gift. I know I would.

tacky and greedy. the only acceptable reference to gifts on an invitation is the request for no gifts at all or a donation to a chartiy in lieu,

I don't think it's tacky. I'd rather have money or a gift certificate than a sweater that i'll never wear or a gift i'll never use.

No one should be expecting gifts..if someone wants to give it, it's up to them. that is totally tacky. it looks like they are inviting you to get your money or gift.

I only give cash if not asked. When someone says "Hey it's My Birthday, give me money" I almost feel as if I am being accosted by a street begger. B-day parties are about openign present's, Being happy and sad with what you recieved :) Cash is very impersonal :(

i wouldn't go and I sure would not send money or any gift they requested personally. gifts are about giving not about receiving.

Very greedy. The person should be thankful you came to their stupid party for how greedy and money laundering they sound from the description.
