Someone suggested that many christians may be hostile to me based on my screenname.

A Devils Advocate is a christian term, not for someone bad. Actually, for a role that a priest plays. He's the person in charge of investigating and agruing the opposing side when a saint is up for sainthood or when a candidate for pope is entertained. The idea is for this person to test the wisdom of a "yes" decision by trying to poke holes in it. It's an important job, as it is supposed to improve the decision & expose weaknesses in a position.

Outside of christianity, it just refers to a person who challenges and tests a position's integrity by arguing against it.

Play the devil's advocate with yourself. It'll keep you honest in your beliefs.

------------------------------------
Now for the question:

Do YOU ever play your own devil's advocate?
If no, why not?

why NOT challenge your own positions?

I know its common for the homoesexual community to lie about being married. Some will say they are married just to either sound cool or hide their gayness. This guy here named mac is doing that. he clicks on my profile and sends me messages that go right to my e-mail. I dont know why he privatly tells me he's gay but then in public acts as if he has a wife. What a loser. Just be yourself man. What do you guys think about liars?

Most Christian I've talked to are basically for any war in the Middle East against Muslims/Islamists. It appears to be, for the most part, just a religious war between Christians and Islamists, masked as freedom??? Maybe Christians really just want to free the Middle Eastern people of Islam? Christians are the last people who are for any true meaning of freedom. Take the gay marriage issue. Gay marriage is a form of freedom but contradicts Christians' beliefs. Let's face it, both religions, Christianity and Islam, actively try to supress and censor anything that contradicts their beliefs. They both are obviously competing religions. The attempt at imposing Intelligent Design/Creationism in science books is a form of religious censorship, which is one reason why it has failed. To me, both religions are very much one of the same, they both can't stand for anything to contradict their belief and will do anything to stop it, which is why religion can be so dangerous and violent.

If you say no, then read these scriptures and rethink your answer.

"The glory of Israel will fly away like a bird, for your children will die at birth or perish in the womb or never even be conceived. Even if your children do survive to grow up, I will take them from you. It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone. I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels. But now Israel will bring out her children to be slaughtered." O LORD, what should I request for your people? I will ask for wombs that don't give birth and breasts that give no milk. And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children." Hosea 9:11-16

"The Lord on his part has forgiven your sin: you shall not die. But since you have utterly spurned the Lord by this deed, the child born to you must surely die." Samuel 12:11-14

So the LORD our God handed King Og and all his people over to us, and we killed them all- men, women, and children alike. Deuteronomy 3:1-7

Hell: The Kingdom of The Devil and Evil, and the eternal 'resting' place for those judged unfavorably by God when they die. Myth or Real?

I remember watching a documentary on TV of an atheist who treated other people poorly and basically had no principles at all who had a near death experience. When he died, he fully expected to lose consciousness forever. Instead, he found visitors coming for him in the OR. As they walked him down the hall, they swarmed him, biting, clawing, and looking like genuine demons. He claimed that he was in Hell for a short period of time, and explained his experiences. After this experience, he was a changed man. Does anyone have any stories about people who *didn't see the pretty white lights* during their near death experiences?

My mom also had an out of body experience during a life-and-death operation where she was above the operating table. A few months later, she had a night terror, and woke up to see horrifying demons flying around her.

Trading spouses - Supreme Christian Mother swapped with a New Age Belief mother

I guess this is a question to Believers - does this disturb you to see someone this fanatical? I know not everyone is like this but when it is broadcasted on television - no wonder people stay away from religion...

What are your opinions on this...?

That actually addresses the idea of the existance of God rather than attacking evolution or communism or selfishness or some other idea that you associate with atheism?

I'm wondering, since most I see from Christians about atheism is some claim like 'atheists have no hope' or 'atheists refuse to see God' or some other such bunk.

Can anyone give a good argument as to why you think atheism --the lack of belief in God(s)--is wrong?

Comments from atheists welcome too :)
