No. In fact, it is when we are not in a state of grace that we most need forgiveness.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Confession) is the way to get back into a state of grace.

There is man's forgiveness and there is God's forgivness. When God forgives you are in God' Grace. And the offence is gone, forever, as far as God is concerned.

When man forgives you are just off the hook for that one. unless the forgiver gets mad at you again for something and then holds the old offence against you still...

You have forgiven someone when you no longer have any feeling of ill will towards the offender for the offence being forgiven... The offender need not know of your forgiveness for this to be true. I believe one who can truly forgive dose achieve a certain peace from the act... I would not call it a state of grace though

To give it -- no, you don't. Extending forgiveness can, and should, be done by everybody.

To receive forgiveness when not in a state of grace -- well, that's the only way to be RETURNED to a state of grace.

If we couldn't recieve forgiveness unless we were in a state of grace, then we could never return to a state of grace if we were to fall out of it.

I am not sure if you are talking about receiving forgiveness from God, forgiveness from people, or both. I think the answer is different when it comes to receiving forgiveness from God, than receiving forgiveness from people.

As for giving forgiveness, I don't think it is possible to forgive without grace. Grace is an inherant part of true forgiveness.

It is only by asking for and accepting God's forgiveness that we can be in a state of grace.

I believe that grace is being in the favor of GOD. If you have reconciled all trangressions, have been given absolution for those which are deemed against the commandments, then you are in a state of grace. You have been given grace by confessing to your wrongs.......peace & love~p~
