Is this true? That clocks (especially clock-faces) represent death to oriental cultures (esp. Chinese people), and that they prefer not to have them displayed at home?

Yes. But it is okay to have them at home (unless you are super-superstitious). But giving it as a gift is a no-no.

I'm not sure about that clock thing, but I think the correct phrase to describe people of the far east culture is "ASIAN". Only Food or Material Items are to be described as ' oriental '. Please correct me if I am wrong folks.

Don't say "oriental" when referring to a person, it's rude. "Oriental" refers to an object (like a rug), when referring to a person say "Asian." I don't mean to sound rude, I just don't want you to accidentally upset someone.
