Very insightful,
Religion is a form of control but today has a capitalistic twist. Religion is the new beaucracy. Religions become xenophobic and almost cult like now days. Its use vs them and them being anyone thats not like themselves. Everyone gets so wrapped up in dogma that people forget the reason for religion. Thats why I've converted to agnostic with buddhism as a source of my spirtuality and faith.

Awesome comment, you've come up with the utopian world. If more people thinked like you do I guess I do have hope for mankind.

If you are American, you owe your very freedom to Christians and Christian ideals! Remember this phrase in the Declaration of Independence: "All men are created equal"? That was a Christian thought. This republic was a great experiment based on Christian principles, and bathed in the prayer of our founding Fathers.
Does anyone force you to pray or go to church? No. Are other religions allowed to worship openly in our country? Yes. You can thank our Christian founding fathers for that heritage.
The other thing is, you obviously don't understand fundamentalist Islam if you think they have one iota of the religious freedom or even tolerance that Christians do. Take a look at Nigeria for example. They set fire to Christian universities there, more than once, merely for being there. They are creating all kinds of civil unrest and violence, to try and force the country to go Muslim. And there are other countries similarly beset. This is not a gentle group we are dealing with here!
Do you see the difference? I do.
If they were to ever overtake America, all your religious liberty would be stripped away. That includes your freedom not to believe in religion at all. Freedom of speech, too. Much of the freedom you now know - gone. This war is as much about protecting your freedom here as it is Iraq's.
If we let the terrorists win, just imagine what will happen next, to us, to the world. Ponder that a while. Then do what you need to to hold on to your freedom.

I am Christian and believe both religions are very similar. Unfortunately, most terrorists are Muslims, although most Muslims are NOT terrorists. I support any war against terrorists because terrorists have no respect for life, civilization or anything else. They are no different than radical anti-abortionists who bomb abortion clinics, (I do not agree with abortion clinics, but bombing them is not right). The problem with many Islamic countries is that they often support terrorists for whatever reason. The Israel-Lebanon war is a great case in point. Much of the Shia population blames Israel, well Israel tried very hard to avoid civilian casualties, but it is a bit hard when the people bombing Israel dress like civilians and place their bunkers under house and apartment buildings. The fault is with Hezbollah and Islamic countries who call for Israel's elimination and started all of the wars. If Israel believed they would be safe by giving back the Shebba Farms, which are Syrian, then they would. Unfortunately, Israel's decision to return Southern Lebanon in 2000 and Palestine recently have proven that returning land to their neighbors is not a safe thing to do.
If Muslims believe it is Christianity vs. Muslims the war will turn into it. If true Muslims take their faith back from Islamic extremists, then the world will be a much better place. If not, the world will likely face a true Muslim vs. Christian and possibly all other religions.
Most people are good and there are people who will manipulate religion for their own good/power; of which the popes during the crusades are a great example. Nasrallah, Bin Ladin and al-Sadr are no different than Pope Urban II, and God/Allah will send them all to hell. Elements of every religion will try to suppress those things they do not like, but most will not.

Sadly it is a two-way street. It's the exclusivity doctrine that gets people into trouble with other faiths...the idea that I am right and everyone else is wrong.
As far as the situation in the ME right now...no. It is not a religious war on the part of the US. If the US were really at war with "Islam", we wouldn't be nearly as discriminate as we have been. We'd be carpet-bombing the entire reigion.

I think you better be careful in generalising in this way. Did you take a poll from Christians from just one country or many countries? If you generalise in this way, if you ask the Muslims in Iran or Pakistan, they are probably for the terrorism around the world then can I really say 'Most Muslims that I've spoken to are basically for all the terrorism against infidels and they deserve it!' Wrong.
Pedophilia can be also be argued that it is their freedom and their right to be able to look at nude pictures of kids, if the kids are willing to provide nude pictures of themselves right? Wrong.
Christianity and Islam, both are peaceful religions, it is just that government of all countries in the world are using it to further their dominance and to their advantage.

Why do Islamic countries take harsh actions against anyone entering their country with a Bible? Don't they want to suppress their religion?
Where are the morals of Muslims when they blow up a plane of innocent people?
The blame game works both ways!
Like that.... littledarling54

Islam preaches peace and devotion to Allah, the Creator. Christians preach devotion to Jesus, the son of this same Creator. If each religion truly believed, and followed their religion as intended, they would be arguing over who should be the most peaceful and who could be the most helpful. Inshallah (God willing) what a wonderful argument that would be! Each struggling to outdo the other in kindness!

fairly, killing priests, destroying church homes, and compelled conversion are all strictly forbidden in Islamic regulation, even for the time of circumstances of conflict. you will discover this counsel in almost any handbook of Islamic Jurisprudence, so it rather is not basically somebody's opinion on the undertaking, there is almost consensus in this between docs of Islamic regulation.

they want "freedom" in the middle east so they can send over some missionaries and convret those heathons into the "real" religion. they lack morals and concious thought. they see one goal and work towards it blindly without worrying about consequences.

At this point, Islam has much to answer for.
Dont expect much sympathy from the world till you reign in your terrorists.
