I understand they are both considered prophets (correct me if I am wrong). What distinctions are made past that? Are either considered "closer" to God?

I found a few quotes from a websites
* Buddha: "The avaricious do not go to heaven, the foolish to not extol charity. The wise one, however, rejoicing in charity, becomes thereby happy in the beyond." (Dhammapada 13.11)
* Jesus: "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven." (Matthew 19.21)

* Buddha: "Consider others as yourself." (Dhammapada 10.1)
* Jesus: "Do to others as you would have them do to you." (Luke 6.31)

* Buddha: "Let us live most happily, possessing nothing; let us feed on joy, like radiant gods." (Dhammapada 15.4)
* Jesus: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God." (Luke 6.20)

* Buddha: "If anyone should give you a blow with his hand, with a stick, or with a knife, you should abandon any desires and utter no evil words." (Majjhima Nikaya 21.6)
* Jesus: "If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also." (Luke 6.29)

can anyone give me any more similarities?

What if you get don't worship the right way. What if the Catholics were right instead of protestants or visa versa? I know he is a loving God, but if you screw up or adhere to a different version of scriptures/interpretatons are you damned?

I like the community, but I don't believe in supernatural. I see these mega churches and they seem so postive and such a great community.

I've gone to a Unitarian church before, which seems to be open to people who belive all sorts of things. It just seems like some of the fundamentalist churches have so much ...I don't know positive energy. But again I don't belive, so i don't think I'd feel comfortable there.

Not just parents, grandparent, etc. But WAY back.

How far back can you trace? Have you done research?

It's odd sometimes to think that each of us had relatives living and trying to make their way 500 or 1,000 years ago.

I met and remember one grandmother and one great grandmother. Who do you remember?

Any other thoughts?

Aside from the fact the the gospels included in the bible were voted on by a comittee and there are dozens of gospels that were omitted... How do people KNOW that they were written by god? I understand that you have FAITH that they are the word of God, but do you have proof? Is there anything that makes that book stand out, that makes it glow with divine energy? I have read the bible numerous times, and I am not bashing religious people... I am just confused with how so many people can claim its truth and accuracy yet, it is simply words on paper... written by people... If the words were etched on to the side of a mountain by lightning, I'd be the first to line up for mass... but how do you KNOW that it is holy? And at the same point, if you can accept that your book is HOLY without any proof of such, how can you claim that other religious texts are not... when they are provided with the same absense of proof?

I parked my car at a proper parking lot while fetching my girl at a school near Bukit Timah. When I was going back home, there is a big jam as people left their vehicle on yellow lines. It came a time where 2 ways were completely jammed up, and almost for about 5 minutes.. This man from the opposite lane came out to check why. I thought it was an accident. So, i just wind down my window to ask: "What really happened?" His answer was.. "What happened? It's people lah... People like you jamming up the road!" --- What would you say to him?

According to the Holy Bible, in Genesis, The Lord destroyed the two cities Sodom and Gomorrah. He destroyed them because of the homosexuality, which The Bible explicitly says is a sin. Now when Lot and his family left, The Lord told them never to look back. Lot's wife did, and turned into a pillar of salt. So, if according to The Bible, homosexuality is wrong, how can homosexuals call themselves Christians? I've given you where The Lord says it's a sin, so if your going to rebuke me, show me one spot in The Bible where it says homosexuality is ok in the eyes of The Lord.
