Aside from the fact the the gospels included in the bible were voted on by a comittee and there are dozens of gospels that were omitted... How do people KNOW that they were written by god? I understand that you have FAITH that they are the word of God, but do you have proof? Is there anything that makes that book stand out, that makes it glow with divine energy? I have read the bible numerous times, and I am not bashing religious people... I am just confused with how so many people can claim its truth and accuracy yet, it is simply words on paper... written by people... If the words were etched on to the side of a mountain by lightning, I'd be the first to line up for mass... but how do you KNOW that it is holy? And at the same point, if you can accept that your book is HOLY without any proof of such, how can you claim that other religious texts are not... when they are provided with the same absense of proof?

Greg A M - that is a very solid explanation and I agree with a great deal of what you said, except for the god not changing part... In the old testament it is the wrath of god, plagues, floods, the cating out of mankind, etc. In the new testament it is the grace of god... If god is unchanging why is he so different... I undestand the sacrafice of his son (himself) but it does not show that god is unchanging. Additionally if he is all-knowing and can see how the future will be, why would he create humanity knowing that it would make the bad choices it did (Babel, soddom, etc) and then punish them for the actions.

The Overall Harmony of the Bible

Imagine a library of 66 books written by about 40 different people over a period of 1,600 years. Three languages were used by writers who lived in a number of lands. All the writers had different personalities, abilities, and backgrounds. But when the books they wrote were eventually gathered together, it turned out that, really, they made up just one great book following one basic theme from beginning to end. That is hard to imagine, is it not? Yet, the Bible is just such a library.

NO HONEST student can fail to be impressed by the fact that the Bible, although a collection of different books, is one unified production. It is unified in that, from beginning to end, it promotes worship of just one God whose characteristics never change, and all its books develop one overriding theme. This overall harmony is powerful evidence that the Bible is, indeed, the Word of God.

1. Ivan Panin, a Russian mathematician in the 1800's proved without use of a computer, that the Biblical texts of both the Old Testament and the New Testament (Torah and Brit Hadash) have repeating numerical patterns that could only have been devised if the scriptures truly are of divine origin. The Nobel Prize committee verified that his work showed divine proof of the Bible's origin.

2. The Bible Codes, recently solidified by the use of computers have been utilized on a limited scale by rabbinic scholars for centuries. The computer age has under-girded this providential design.

3. The application of "The Bible" in my own life has proven the truth of its words over and over again. There are at least 365 promises in this book, whose name literally means "Book". Standing on these promises brings incredible results.

4. Why would the Bible be, and continue to be the best-selling book in history, if God didn't intend to use it as His means of communication to Mankind?

That's what faith is all about. Believing. I'm not a Doubting Thomas. How do I explain to you that I don't need proof to know that the Word is true? I don't need to put my hands into Jesus' wounds to believe He was crucified for my sins. I'm reading the Bible now. I have finished the Old Testament and am well into the New Testament. So many biblical prophecies came true. What more proof do you need than that?

There's lots of historical evidence that shows that what is written in the Bible, actually happened.

There are also prophecies that were made in the Bible, that actually came true. I believe there are a ton of them too... enough to discredit being right by chance, and claim the source of the Bible is divine, rather than human, in nature.

Here's a site that talks a lot about it, there's a lot to read, but it should explain everything:

Hi, E-Rock. You should know God's in everything... There are secular songs who have a divine power, words of encouragemente or so... It lights do goodness. It links to something good. Just listen to the lyrics of som modern bands and you will feel how thei put averithing down... So, dear friend, I believe everything that leads to a good end comes from some power of God and lies above... the Bible shows a good end to our story... Human beings will find a good end on it. Prophecies show Someone is driving the big ship to a sure harbor... Study Daniel and Apocalipsys. Search for IASD to make a strong beginning in prophecies and you will come to believe more in God's inspired writers. May god bless you so that you find his hands using my hands to write you this. I'm a brazilian teacher, it's my first time no your language, Maaybe He has prepared me only to write you this: Believe Him - He loves you!

Don't believe any of this prophecy stuff the bible thumpers will claim.

You see, Never has a prophecy come true. It is always AFTER the fact that they interpret a prophecy to mean what happened.

It has never actually PREDICTED a specific EVENT, ever.

Also, the claim of the bibles coherence is false. The works in the bible were picked and chosen so they would go together.

There is not a lot of discussion needed here...
Religion is not rocket science anyway. It was made for the uneducated in order to control them.
Simple. How can there be an old testament and a new testament?
Did the most intelligent divine being change its mind?
And who are "we" to vote and decide what should be included in it? What a load of crap...

Oh sure. An angry God is going to send his children to burn in hell for all of eternity just because they followed that awful Eve after she ate the wrong apple.

Does that punishment fit the "crime"?

And God really destroyed everybody on Earth, except for Noah and a few of his family members, and two of every type of animal on Earth.

Sure.

For a reality check, see this if you want to have narrow-minded views challenged. But if you prefer to bury your head in the sand, don't read it because it makes too much sense.
