In the newspaper today, Marilyn (from the Ask Marilyn column) suggested that all women should keep their maiden names through-out their lives. She also suggests that when married couples have children the boy babies should take the surnames of their fathers and girl babies take their mothers' surname.

* What do you think of this idea?

* If you kept your last name when getting married how did you handle this issue of what surname to give to your child?

* Marilyn says: "The benefits to girls and women would be enormous while costing the boys and men nothing---except the fun of claiming ownership of the opposite sex!" Do you agree or disagree that her idea takes nothing away from anyone?

You're essentially saying that women are NOT equal to men and that violence against them is its own category because they're too weak to defend themselves.

I'm referring to women who punched out other women to get the last DVD player, or who "accidentally" knocked down a child and trampled him to grab the last toy. Do you consider them to be a credit to feminism?

Wife made me sit through "Marie Antoinette" last night.

A Sofia Coppola movie is like the Talking Heads description of Heaven: "A place where nothing ever happens."

"Megan gets an e-mail, or a message from Josh on her MySpace on Oct. 15, 2006, saying, 'I don't know if I want to be friends with you any longer because I hear you're not nice to your friends,'" Tina Meier said.

Someone using Josh's account was sending cruel messages and Megan called her mother, saying electronic bulletins were being posted about her, saying things like, "Megan Meier is a slut. Megan Meier is fat," according to the Associated Press.

The cyber exchange devastated Megan, who was unable to understand how and why her friendship unraveled. The stress and frustration was too much for Megan, who had a history of depression.

Tina Meier discovered her daughter's body in a bedroom closet on Oct. 16, 2006. Megan had hanged herself and died a day later.

But six weeks after Megan's death, the Meiers learned Josh Evans never existed. A mother, who had learned of the page from her own daughter, told the Meiers a neighborhood mom had created and monitored Evans' profile and page.

That it is men that complain most on GWS about women, yet these same men accuse women of using the, "victim" card. These same men say that women do the reporting yet they are the first ones to brag about reporting others.
They use insults such as hypocrisy yet they are the ones that practice just that.

Some men have a strange fascination for this, particularly if the panties have been worn for at least a day. Don't think women have like stinky male underwear. Why the discrepancy. Or is there?

"Do you still believe the world is good enough to want to have children?"

What would you ask?

Curious from many angles, and it isn't specifically a G&WS question, but here is as good as any other place.

I think mine would be "Don't be afraid, ever."

What would yours be?

speaking to division of property, child custody and child support would it be better for individuals to enter into civil unions where in the event of dissolution the before mentioned factors would largely be pre-determined and regulated by state or federal law and not divorce courts? i am not talking about prenuptial agreements as those are defined by each individual but rather federal or state guidelines intended on ensuring equal rights to both parties.

also, would this change allow gay and lesbian couples the same rights as traditional couples?

Why do some people in this forum say that feminism is destroying marriages when the divorce rate is at its lowest since 1970? More people are working on saving their marriages now than in decades past. Some studies have found that married women who work are NOT a factor in divorce, in fact, working women tend to stabilize marriage. True, many are opting not to marry, which may be part of the reason for the decline in divorce rates. But is this really a bad thing? Your thoughts?
