Well, when women get older they become more sensitive about their age we want to look younger (blame it on the media and society) We want to age gracefully and it's rude to ask a older woman how old she is you don't want to remind a woman she's getting older our bodies change and getting older is harder on women than men. Just don't do it.

I don't really care. While I'm not full of wrinkles and other signs of getting older, it still is obvious that I am not a young woman. There are other ways a person can look older besides wrinkles. My skin looks different from that of my teenage daughter. I have some sun damage and I don't have the baby fat on my face that she does. Getting plastic surgery will not change those facts. I still will have the skin of an older person no matter how many Botox injections or facelifts I get. Instead, I believe in trying to look the best I can for my age. I think it is foolish to try to look younger. By the way, I'm 48.

It does depend on the situation. I don't ask anyone about age or weight or any personal details about his or her appearance unless I have a valid reason. Why should it matter?

In many societies women have been judged harshly on their appearance. Older women are often thought to be less attractive. That's why I would imagine they'd be sensitive to possible judgments of their attractiveness based on their age. It's a valid concern.

Answergirl: "....what is funny is guys will lie about their height, their income, and other personal things....while women are more concerned with their age...." Right on.

An insightful quote from Naomi Wolfe is apropos:

"Women have face-lifts in a society in which women without them appear to vanish from sight."

Nothing wrong. BUT, according to society, a woman shouldn't be asked her age and a man shouldn't be asked how much he makes. I couldn't care less. I ask.

Women are very sensitive about their age.
Don't ask them how old they are until after you get to know them a little. It's also considered disrespectful. But some women don't have a problem with it.

But the majority do!

With men starting to get as obsessed with products and how they look as women have been doing for a decade or two, it won't be long before men will not want reveal their ages either. Our society is obsessed with youth. If we lived in a culture that valued wisdom that came with age, people would proudly own up to their calender age.

It's not proper to do that unless you have a valid reason. Women don't ask that question to mes so why should you be any different. In many cultures its a grave insult to ask anyone their age.

Historically, the desirability of women decreases as they age. For centuries women have been encouraged to not discuss their age or to outright lie about it in order to maintain their options in society.

I've never really understood why it's a big deal. I'm a woman and I don't care if someone asks me my age.

because it is like a way to judge someone...and label them....most people have age limitations....and put it on women especially with the age thing....like as if age is another way to discriminate against someone....

....what is funny is guys wll lie about their height, their income, and other personal things....while women are more concerned with their age....

while in reality it doesn't really matter how old you are...but who you are and what you do ....and with looks....I have seen many men and women...who are well over their 20s who look more beautiful than even a 16 year old....always depends on the person...
