Is it possible to respect different views? To agree to disagree? And to take a healthy discussion without bashing, reporting, harassing and bad mouthing other contributors just because they have other views?

Do you think this is possible?

This goes to how we each build, defend or reply to generalities in any discussion. If someone says A is true, shouldn't it be assumed in the majority as true rather than excluded on the basis of the minority? This is not a specific question to any one subject. It is simply an attempt to discuss the techniques by which we construct our thoughts and present them to others.

For instance: If I say "humans need to protect their eyes"; is it an appropriate defense to say "not all humans have eyes" as a means to dismiss the applicability of that statement to the majority who do have eyes?

By what criteria should we examine or critique the formation of stereotypes? By what margin of a majority do we need to accept that A is true, without being able to dismiss it as a stereotype? Are we supposed to dismiss generalities as false, simply because they are stereotypes?

I guess this is more of a philosophical question than anything else.

I keep having "end of the world " dreams.
in them are lots of suffering, crying, and torture.
I know they are dreams, but they FEEL so incredibly real.
During the scariest parts of these dream, I try to wake myself up. My husband has literally shaken me and in a couple of instances has had to slap me awake. Why do I keep having these dreams and how can i force myself to wake up?

we are stronger at birth than male babies, we mature quicker, we can multi-task, we have fewer degenerative diseases, we outlive men!!! (did you know we get cheaper insurance as a result) so, why is it that its mostly men who end up being presidents of a country, or, we women still take men's surname when we marry (we lose our entire identity!!) well, i didnt, i kept my maiden name when i married... what do you gals think of all this? btw, the above has been scientifically proven (i did my mini-thesis on it so don't friggin argue with me ok!)

My psychology professor assigned as an extra-credit project, to discuss why service learning "is not" important to self-leadership. I am here to ask for the Yahoo! Answer's community's opinions, because I feel like service learning IS a very important part of self-leadership.

I'm trying to avoid having to write up a five-page paper on how in the end, it is important and necessary, as I would basically not be completing the requirements of the assignment for not answering her question.

Thank you all very, very much for your opinions, ideas, and support, it is all extemely helpful.

Ok so basically every night when I go to sleep I have this dream (well I'm not so sure it's a dream anymore) that this naked old lady with eleven fingers and a glass eye comes into my bedroom dragging somthing in a sack. It seems that I'm awake when this is happening...and no I'm not suffering from any "psychological" problems...so don't even go there.

Anyway, I'm always really scared when I see her, and even when I ask her to leave, she tells me that she will; but only after I accept a gift from her. Well so far every time I've refused the so called "gift" (which i assume is whatever's in the damn sack) So what should I do? Get help...from a therepist, priest? Should I "accept" her gift sometime? I'm pretty scared of her and the sight of her really scares me, but I've tried everything to get rid of her; sleeping pills, the works. Thanks =)

I don't know if I have one or the other or both, but whatever it is I suck in social situations. I'm not very good at working in teams and I tend to remain quiet a lot or mumble when asked something. This is really bad because I'm a engineering major, and teamwork is very important. But in my intro to engineering group and my chem lab group, I can't communicate with people and then I say stuff I shoudn't have said and it all crumbles. And I'm a freshman in college and I haven't made any friends because I'm afraid of social situations and that I might act stupid because of my anxiety/bad social skills. What do I do?

I know this shouldn't be about me, but it's hell for me.
We're just out and about. and then suddenly, he starts talking about how life isn't worth living, that he gets anxious, and says... what the hell... only 50 more years, right? Like he can't wait to die. Whenever we see in the news or wherever that people die, he complains: why them and not me?
On the upside, he says he wouldn't kill himself, but does say he'll have to practice some xtreme sports so his chances of dying are higher.
We have all sorts of problems, and i think all come down to the fact that he's not in love with me, he just 'cares' about me.
I tell him to try to be positive and see the good in life, and he tells me to make him see it by being good to him. But, I am good to him and it never matters. And the times that i'm 'bad' is when i want him to show he really cares about me and a little interest and support in what's important to me.
I don't know what to do. I think i'm one of the reasons he's unhappy...

I grew up with these girls but I am having trouble feeling "happy" for them. One of these girls is moving into a gated community in Scottsdale in a week! Did I go wrong by working? We are working to make monthly rent and go w/o health insurance or pay insane amounts while they are living in really nice houses, pay $0 for insurance or prescriptions just because they have children. Seriously. Not all welfare moms are living in the ghetto. This is a 2000 sq. ft home/2 car garage. What gives???

This is the way I heard it:

My parents went shopping. I was at home alone in my room. My parents came home and went to their room. I was in the kitchen when Frankenstein (scary figure) came through the front door. I hid in the kitchen behind the island and Frankenstein came looking for me. I said a payer to God to help me do the right thing. I felt him say have courage. So I confronted Frankenstein rather meakly. He grabbed me, I broke free from him and ran towards my parents room for help. I triped and fell on the arm of the couch Frankenstein grabbed me by the shoulders and I screamed for mom and dad twice. They came but I woke up.

Any metaphorical conclusions would be appreciated.

I dont hang out with my friends as much anymore. When I am around they say I act different and more quiet.I dont understand what be wrong with me but i dont even act the same way not even my own friends.
I also be completely nervous socializing with new people in general. Its like I dont know what to say and Im lost of words.I never used to be like this before until I kept being with my girlfriend a majority of the time.
