Is it possible to respect different views? To agree to disagree? And to take a healthy discussion without bashing, reporting, harassing and bad mouthing other contributors just because they have other views?

Do you think this is possible?

Actually, I do. I love a good debate and almost never resort to name calling. Someone can disagree with me as much as they want, but as long as they show me respect in their speech (no cursing, no name calling, etc) then I'll show them the same respect.

Besides that, the fun of a debate or discussion is to try to win the argument and how can a person win if the most intelligent thing that comes out of their mouths is "you suck" or some other such nonesense. Sadly, there are many who think the only way they can win is to be the most aggressive instead of the most intelligent.

Good question. Hope it makes some think before clicking.

I try to do just that. But I am so disappointed with the idiotic PMs I get from people. They call me names and say that I should die because I disagree with them on some issue. This level of hate makes me sad. I wonder if there is any hope for people. Can't we talk like civilized human beings? Can't people accept different view points? I think, for too many people, the answer is no.

Possible? Certainly!

Common? No.

My answer is only so brief because so many others said the same already, just better.

Thumbs up for you guys/girls!

That, and I'm getting tired of chiming in on 'Why is everyone so mean!'

People suck, kiddo. Get over it. Most people don't find a reason to be mean. They decide to be mean and find reasons/excuses as they go.

Yes, if this was a perfect world.? It sure would be nice if we all could agree to disagree and not have the mentality or closed mindedness to think or say "and I am not trying to single anyone out", WELL MY GOD IS BIGGER AND BETTER THAN YOURS SO YOUR OPINION DOSE NOT MATTER. But unfortunetly there are closed minded people in this world who need to hate for some stupid reason.life is to damn short to hate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I do not think it is possible or even should be. Healthy disagreement can be very beneficial. "bad mouthing, bashing and harassment" of course is not right but face it, it will always be a part of disagreement

There are numerous personality types, backgrounds, environments, and personal experience that contribute to why a person acts hateful or nice. Because of that, I think there's a slim chance that one day we will all get along. Regretfully, there will always be those who think taking violent action or saying hateful words are the only way they will be listened to.

only if people take this forum lightly. Its just someones views. Its not going to affect our careers or buisnesses, nor is it going to make us any lesser than we are just because people here have opposing views. With the right attitude I think it is possible.

i would like to think it is possible.

this forum can be downright hateful though. malicious people brimming over with bitterness. women, and feminists in particular, have always been an easy target.

there are people working on non-violent solutions, ending bullying, etc. but it is a slow process to change mindsets.

i think people have to stop condoning it - i see it on this forum - oh, let's just pretend it's all in fun and earn 2 points while we are at it. people have to counteract the hate or it will continue.

and, unfortunately, its not all fun. these maliciuos guys are attacking services, lobbying politicians, harassing women, discrediting women, writing letters, etc.

hopefully, they will stay on the lunatic fringe - but they are so widespread on the internet - and sane people are starting to believe them - that i often have my doubts.

I thnk many people are capable of this, but there is a minority that are hopeless. We know who they are, and I choose to ignore them as much as possible. Engaging them only invites harassment.

Not all views deserve respect and there is a fine line between asking for respect for a view and demanding acceptance of it.
