I am not wealthy and I don't know anyone who is but I think you could tell just like poor people can tell if someone is trying to use them.

well since i was quite wealthy once and now am, i can tell you. I keep lower profile now so i will go on what i knew back then.
We will go by they all know im wealthy already.
The ones who are true friends, truly interested will stick by you no matter what. They will always show up and you guys are always together. Involving money or not.
The ones who arent as interested in you , but your money will always want to show up at the time something is going on and they may even bring their friends. They will look at your stuff and ask if they can have it. They will be in awe of your money yet you can tell in their eyes that they really dont care much about you specifically, they are just around for a good time. They want excitement and the lifestyle you have. Soon as its gone you never see them.

I would just dress in my casual clothes all the time so people would need to get to know me to find out how wealthy I was.
too bad I'm not wealthy.

If you act like the hostess with the most-est then you will receive that type of person. But even if you have money and are honest with people and being yourself. Then you are going to be liked for you. If it is a question of testing someone. Then ask to borrow a few bucks see what happens.

The funny thing is that people are not only interested in money and how to get them . There are cases when people come close to you to get popularity, your friends, your way of living, your acquaintances , your status.... Anything but You!! It is very difficult to tell..... It takes time and experience.

i am sure i would have people around me from school etc who wouldn't be interested in my money.
even if you are not wealthy after you finish high school people around you, are not really interested in you. That's unfortunately "life".
Luckily we have childhood friends that will be with us all our lives.

Well, my dear, it goes something like this. When you're rich some how you have friends that you don't even know about or have. It's like everyone is somehow connected to you in some ways. good enough, yes?
