A University of Oregon study has found that young men who have never been traumatized are the least likely population to believe a person's recounting of child sexual abuse.

The study -- published in the March issue of the journal Psychology of Women Quarterly -- also finds that males with high sexism beliefs also tend to believe that such incidents, if they happened at all, were not harmful to the victim.

Why does it matter? Jennifer Freyd, a UO professor of psychology and co-author of the new study, says when people don't believe victims, it discourages victims from speaking out and allows perpetrators to escape unpunished and possibly repeat such crimes.

The study compared men and women who had had their trust betrayed by an adult to those that had not. They found that men who had not had their trust betrayed by an adult were the least likely to believe that child sexual abuse happens, or that it affects the victim. Why do you think these men don't believe abuse victims?

Over the past eight years or so my life has changed. I basically put everything on hold for my family and now that they have moved, I feel as if I am so far away from where I should be. I have lost myself, I don't even know myself anymore, and on top of it all I lost contact with my most of my friends. I feel so alone and lost. What should I do? I hate the way I am and long to live.
Serious answers only please :)

It seems like everyone complains about their childhood and according to shrinks all our problems stem from our lousey childhoods. Does this mean everyone is psychotic in some way? I am 49 and I have only had 1 person tell me they had a great childhood.

i'm 15 years old, and i'm always pissed off. like for example today, i was in such a good mood, i was studying for my finals, and then my 18 year old sister came home. She started blasting her music and i couldnt concentrate on studying my 18 chapters for my spanish final. I asked her multiple times if she could turn it down...not even off just down, and she fliped a **** on me. now i'm not to great at spanish so i'm really trying to study hard and do well. this really pissed me off, and then my friends called and asked me if i wanted to hang out with them. i said i couldn't and they were all bullshit you're not doing work you're probably just slacking off. this really pissed me off because i was doing work and really trying hard to do well. i told them that and they still didnt believe me so i hung up on them. and during my 3 weeks of finals, my sister has been having friends over and keeping me up til 330 am. so im running on exaustion and under a lot of stress, what can i do?

I hate that. It'll be so quiet and I'm the only one with the sniffly nose and the stomach that goes, "Grrrrrr... Erccc..." Like yesterday during my math exam, I did both of those above. Plus there were wierd sounds that would "go off" inside of me... It'll sound like bombs over bahgdad in my tummy. I can't stand that stuff, it is freaking embarrassing and plus sometimes it doesn't feel good to have stomach ache during a 3 hour test.

I can't stand myself. I am 17 years old, 1400 SAT, IQ of 135. I am the lonliest person I know. I have had one meaningful relationship, 2 years ago. It ended with her going to my best friend, who is still my best friend. Every situation since then has caused me to go start defining things in black and white. E.G, if a hear a car coming, I will say to myself "if it is a light color -- this girl likes me, if it is a dark color -- she doesn't like me." I'll count the change in my pocket and do the same thing based on even or odd numbers. Often I become really depressed and think of how much better my life could be. I have one close friend, and a few not-so-close ones. I used to be a very outgoing person, but now I just keep to my self, and sleep through school. My GPA is roughly a 2.2, and I KNOW I can do better, even if I set goals for myself I can't follow them however. If it helps, I don't do any drugs, and rarely drink. I used to smoke, but quit. Why am I messed up like this?

A) Growing up in a very unstable house with alcoholic parents who spend all their benefits on beer leaving not much money for food. Living in a very deprived neighborhood without much prospects of a good education. Often getting smacked for petty things but always having your parents their when you needed some affection and love. Being in a family. A life of crime.

B) Growing up in a foster family who live in a reletivly nice neighborhood, eating nice food and having clothing allowances and activities paid by social services, a decent education. Being disliked by your foster family and constantly reminded you are a bad child for being taken into care. Always looked down upon. Never being able to feel you belong to the family, not allowed to decorate your bedroom to make it personal, every christmas getting told your nice expensive presents are only yours while you like there. Growing up resentful and loney.

She obviously reported my answer and it was deleted. She believes in double standards or is simply a feminazi man hater !

As a guy am I expected not to take offense at comments such as hers ? Or do we just accept her as simply a bitter man hater ?

What do you think ?
