My frustration does not lie with those who are truly diagnosed with depression, Rather, my argument lies with those who have a bad day, week, month or even year and like to shout out, "Oh, I'm depressed!" when really all they are, are people who are struggling to deal with adversity in their lives. Adversity, I might add that should they meet it head on and overcome it, they will emerge a much better person for it in the end.
The drug companies are leading the population to believe that if you aren't smiling and whirling around through the park, playing ball with your perfectly bred lab then you must be depressed and if you take "our" pill, you can be as happy as all these other people who are taking our pill(s).
Like it or not I have observed a trend in the work place and out and about. People self diagnosing their 'depression' and they have learned the "DEPRESSION SPEAK" of today so that their Dr.'s are handing out drugs left and right without follow up visits, even.
