no punches as yet, but we're both getting older and less patient

This is a true story. My younger brother and i played high school football. I was 1 year ahead of him. The "older" brother. We were so competitive that the coaches would not allow neither he or i to participate in any one-on-one drills against each other because every time we did, one of us would walk away bloody.

We were so competitive and literally tried to hurt each other but let someone touch him and i would be on there case like white on rice.

This is not at all uncommon or abnormal at all. Here is something to think about. It is really more peer pressure than anything else. Let someone find out your little brother kicked your butt on the football field and now he is "superior" in the eyes of your peers. So put all that behind you, Brotherly love is very strong but so are sibling rivalries that involve the influence of others, especially mutual friends. Who cares what anyone else thinks. You will know each other your whole life so learn to respect one another now and all will be good as you get older.

Sure. It's called friendly rivalry. Or it could be jealousy too.
