I think that the saying "you can't love anyone else until you love yourself" is so cliche. I don't think it is true at all. I think it is very possible to love and respect someone even if you hate yourself. I believe that if you truly love someone, that you will do your best to make them happy. If you can hide it well, then the person you love won't be affected by your self-hate, or low opinion of yourself. Who agrees? I think too many people say the aforementioned phrase because it just sounds like the right thing to say.

Hello,
I am 31 years old and at one time life held promise for me. I had a great job, car and despite my retarded upbringing, I was destined for success. Then I screwed it all up. I was depressed so i quit my job and ended up on a disability pension because of severe depression and anxiety. I crashed the car I worked so hard to pay off and I didn't have insurance anymore. Now I'm stuck in this house thats miles away from town so I have no way to get anywhere. I have gained weight and smoke cigarettes and I'm also a pot-head. Even the house I Iive in is a write-off. I get so sick of being stuck here that I give up on cleaning it. So now I sit here, with my house a disaster feeling fat and stoned and useless and hopeless. I KNOW I need to change but it's so hard to know where to start!!

Buddhism is much more than a religion. It is a philosophy of Life, because philosphy means
"love of wisdom" and the Buddhist path can be summed up as follows:
1 - to lead a moral and ethically sound life.
2 - to be mindful & aware of one's thoughts,
words, and actions.
3 - to develop Wisdom and Understanding.

But how can Buddhism help me ?
Buddhism explains our real purpose in life.
It explains apparent injustice and inequality around the world. It Provides a code of practice which brings Peace and Happiness.
Buddhism has the answers to the problems in modern materialistic societies. It includes a Deep Understanding of the human mind, which prominent Scientists, and Psychologists around the world are now discovering to be very advanced and effective!! Buddhism teaches not to believe everything we're told but to develop wisdom, which requires an open, objective, unbigoted mind. We can understand others when we can truly understand ourselves through Wisdom.

Are all people in the world same? I'm very frustrated to live in my country, which is very poor and I don't like its mentality. I think that I deserve to live in some other country. What to do, I can't move out?? How to prevent that kind of thinking? I sometimes imagine that I live in the U.S.

Few examples...When I'm walking down the street or just walking in a store I feel like everyone is looking at me and it makes me feel really uncomfortable. I also never answer my phone or call people because i'm scared I won't have anything to say or I'll say the wrong thing, I also dont want anyone to call and ask to hang out because I just like to be alone sometimes and I wouldnt know what to tell them. I also get very nervous when I go somewhere to hang out with someone i hardly know. I dont know if this is normal but I hate feeling like this. What can I do to help myself?

Recently, I've been feeling like life is boring and unexciting. I've found the things that used to entertain me no longer appeal to me. I find myself constantly wondering about different circumstances and situations that I feel I have no control over. I also find it difficult making friends and meeting new people now that I'm a married father of three. HAs anyone else been in this situation? What did you do?

I've always had a mentor in life, of various sorts. Be it a BF of my mother, or a friend of the family, or personal friend. It seems I always seek out, or find a friend who is very capable as a mentor.

I've talked to other people, and have gathered, to some degree, that this is not a overly-common life route.

Why? Or why not?
