not sure about knowledge based research, but evidence based research is just findings that are backed up with verifiable results.
example: you have a child with a specific behavior problem and you want to know what treatment approach will be the best one. an evidence based treatment will be one that has been tested and retested on groups of children with the same behaviors and found to work well (or not, so don't use it) consistently.
that doesn't mean other treatments wouldn't work just as well, it's just that evidence based ones have the "evidence" to back them up as good treatments.
so a benefit of using evidence based research is that it has more "proof" behind it and thus may be considered to be preferable.

Evidence Based Research - best, but you have to be careful of bias. All results must be recorded. Draw conclusions from results, not the other way around.

Knowledge based - a start point, nothing more.
