Zoology - August 2007

It was in the Pennsylvanian section of the trail, I can't remember the colors, and it was about the size of a pinky finger nail. The thing that interested me was its reaction speed. I went to flick it of my arm only to find it sitting on my finger. I did it again harder with the same results. I did it several more times simply because I was fascinated by how quickly the bug could react. I finally got it off by letting it crawl onto a leaf along side the trail.
I tried to find an answer myself, but most sites don't list bugs by their reaction speeds. If anyone can help salve my curiosity, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was told after it stings/bites you, it will die soon after. But it always seems like the same one flying around and stinging everyone.

Iv'e seen a roach hide behind my hair gel bottle and he waited for a second then it sped off. They are so freaking fast!!! I only catch a glimpse of them when I turn on the lights. The real big ones scare the hell out of me?

Just thinking because animal hide is tough and animals run away so they are not hurt, it would be hard to get a perfect throw at them. I would think it would be more of an intimidation factor. To either trap the animals or to scare away tigers and take their food like scavengers/hunters.

How come we all don't "generally" look alike?
And if we are descendants of a creature who can only live in a particular habitat, how come people of different natures and cultures are dispersed all over the world?
And if this is something that took hundreds of years to accomplish, how come there are still apes here today that aren't transforming into people? And haven't been for the past couple thousand years? (As there have been people here for the past couple thousand years)
Wouldn't evolution suggest that one creature "evolved" from another? seriously, why aren't they continuing to "evolve?" Wouldn't there be no apes left? Why are our "ancestors" still here?
What characteristics of humans do apes possess that other animals don't?
And where did the apes descend from in accordance with the big bang? And where did all the other animals come from?
Birds, reptiles, horses(donkeys, mules, ponies), elephants, bears. lions.....etc. Please tell me how did they get here? Life is so vast...

I found this spider on my stairs in England and can't work out what it is, it is larger than any normal spider I have seen in the house. I know the pictures aren't great but hope they can help.
