Keep the cat indoors.
Whether it is a nest of cottontails or jackrabbits, "Remake the nest as best you can with grasses, hay, straw in the same place. Nests can be moved to a safer place up to 10' away from the original site and can be reconstructed if necessary. To make a new nest, dig a shallow hole about 3" deep and put into it as much of the original material as you can recover, including the mother's fur. Add dried grass as needed, and put the young back. Mother rabbits return to the nest to nurse only at night, staying away as much as possible so as not to attract predators." http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/orphan.html
Once you have remade the nest, leave the area, so the mother rabbit will return.
If any of the bunnies are injured, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm
These people have the specialized training to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. They also have the state and federal licenses required by anyone who keeps a wild animal, even for a short time, until it is healthy enough to be returned to the wild. If you do not have these permits, it is illegal to keep the animals.

jack rabbit babies are precocious which means their eyes are open and they have fur. within a few days they can run. Baby rabbits on the other hand are born naked and blind and take weeks to develop and become independant. try to leave the babies as close to where the nest was originally and leave it alone. the mother may come back for the babies.

Jackrabbits are members of the hare family. They are born with fur and their eyes open, and hop around the day they are born. True rabbit babies, like cottontails, are born naked and blind. A jackrabbit baby would be a harder to catch than a baby rabbit.
