I am curious to know more about animals pre-cognitive abilities to pick up on suttle signs before a catastrophy occurs? I heard before the tidal wave struck Southeast Asia that animals were uncomfortable and possibly 'knew' something bad was coming. Is there a study that has been done on this, or a scientific term given to animals that can tell when weather is coming before humans know what is coming?

Surely they dont come out of the egg the size that they are when we do see them! Is there some sort of quality control that lets them leave their birthplace/nesting area when they reach a certain size??

This is fascinating! Can anyone elaborate on how female great apes handle mestruation when it occurs? What about those in zoos, how do they handle it? Differently than those in the wild? How do males treat them? Any references on the topic would be great as well-

Ever since I saw My Girl when I was really young I have been deathly TERRIFIED of bees and wasp. When I see/hear them I automatically start panicking and hyperventilating. Even if I see them on TV it scares me to death. I don't know how to over come this fear, because I CANNOT come in contact with them, I've tried it. Please no sarcastic answerers.

Within the context of mammalian reproduction, the pineal gland depends on a complete photo period of light and darkness. So if the comet that caused a mass extinction blocked out the sunlight. How where mammals able to reproduce and lead the way for future mammals? Does that mean that there was primitive estrous cycle not present in mammals today?

My 5-year old daughter told me today she'd seen a scorpion on the slide ladder at her pre-school. I wasn't sure if she was telling me the correct name of the bug or not, so I showed her a few pictures. She did pick out the scorpion in the group, so I showed her some pics of some Florida scorpions. She picked out the Florida Bark Scorpion.

The playground is on mulch, and acording to the literature, this is a good place for these scorps to live. So here are my questions.

1. Is there anything the school can do to rid the playground of these things?

2. How worried should I be that my daughter is running around with these things? The literature says they're not very poisonous but that their sting can hurt, but obviously I'm still concerned.

Thanks.

According to ABC News, "Knut is the first baby polar bear to survive in the Berlin zoo in 30 years. His mother, Tosca, a grumpy 20-year-old former circus bear, abandoned him and his brother to die on a rock in the bear pit after they were born on Dec. 5, 2006.

Keepers scooped the cubs out of the compound with fishing net and placed both bear babies in an incubator.

Only Knut survived, and he was brought up as a pampered baby, fed with human milk and cod-liver oil every half hour."
