According to ABC News, "Knut is the first baby polar bear to survive in the Berlin zoo in 30 years. His mother, Tosca, a grumpy 20-year-old former circus bear, abandoned him and his brother to die on a rock in the bear pit after they were born on Dec. 5, 2006.

Keepers scooped the cubs out of the compound with fishing net and placed both bear babies in an incubator.

Only Knut survived, and he was brought up as a pampered baby, fed with human milk and cod-liver oil every half hour."

Of course he should be allowed to live! Why is this becoming such a debate? It's a no-brainer. He survived thanks to his handlers, he's healthy, and he should be raised in a suitable habitat. If they don't want him there, Detroit has a great polar bear exhibit, part of the Arctic Ring of Life, that he would love.

Of course he should live. How would those people feel if a human mother could not or would not nurse her baby or feed it? Would they recommend that the abandoned human baby be put to death?
This bear is probably NEVER going to live in the wild. Too bad. So what? Polar bears are becoming really endangered, so we may need to breed them in captivity. Why would you want to kill a bear that has successfully been bred and raised in captivity so far? This is a very cute little bear cub. He should be allowed to live!

I say the bear should live and laugh at those stupid animal rights activists that want to put it down. Maybe the animal is being spoiled by the humans to much. There are other ways to raise it to let it remain in it's natural wild state. There are many zoos around the world that have raised an animal by hand that was abandoned by it's mother. We should try and save our endangered animal species not destroy them.

The guy should live! He has more of a right than these "people" who want to euthanize him. He wouldn't be able to survive in the wild after having been handheld by humans, but there are zoos for this very reason.

Animal activists, of all people, wanted to have the little guy put down leads me to think, "How can they claim to be concerned for the best interest in the animal?" What the He**??
Put Knut Zu in a protective zoo!

There is no reason to kill the bear! Humans are raising Tigers! So why can't they raise the bear? He's probably going to live in the zoo the rest of his life anyway!

Who would want to kill an inocent polar bear if it has not done anything wrong? Yes I really really want it to live! I absolutaly love bears of any kind and think they should all live! If the zoo doesn't want it then give him to another zoo. I hope he lives! I will cry if they kill him!

The cub has a right to a life as does anyone else! Where's the logic in keeping mass murderers in prison, whom we are supporting with free room and board, yet kill an annocent young life, who did not choose to be ambandoned by his mother? SAVE THE CUB!!!!!

I believe all animals have the right to live, after all we have the know how to do it, why not? "wean" him from the "pampered" life style, but put him in one of the Zoos, so children can see nature up close and learn from it. thanks!

Hey, if we have the facilities to raise a cub, then give him that chance. Why deprive him of that is totally heartless and criminal.
