You read so much about the great white shark being a fearsome predator but how would it fare against orca, the killer whale?

We're just over here watching Shark Week stuff on Discovery Channel, and the boyfriend asked me this. Like I'm supposed to know, or something!

Little help? :)

Are there effective predators? (Like I need to introduce these into my domocile!) Is there an arachnicide I can purchase or concoct?

I expect to enjoy your japes and jests, but would ultimately appreciate a serious answer before my house comes to resemble something from a tale by Poe.

I hear something calling in my trees in Southern Ontario, and wonder if they are cicadas, or some other insect, or maybe even a tree frog. The call is about 8-10 seconds in length, with the pitch remaining the same for the entire call, but the volume is diminished at the beginning and end.

I only ask as I was watching Finding Nemo with my nephew, and the whale has a gigantic one. If they do, what would be the purpose, they certainly don't talk, so could it be something to do with the production of whale song?

I've been going to Colchester Zoo for a few years now and it is really great but I want to know if there are any zoos you think are better. London Zoo was really poor the last time I went, about 4 years ago.Has it improved?

Note this is a 2 part question!
I'm assuming the 'how' must be up the pipe and then squeeze through the plug? If so it seems somewhat tragic when I flush them all the way back down again - but I guess this 'water slide' must be one heck of an adrenalin rush - maybe thats the 'why'?

It was next to the fruit bowl. It's got a small round white body with red stripes and thin legs... it jumped at me when I tried to catch it!

Anyone know what it is?

I recently relocated to Puerto Rico, and while on the north-eastern coast, at a restaurant, I spotted a pair of mammals, larger than a squirrel, but smaller than an otter. I believe it to be amphibious. It was dark brown (almost black, as it also looked wet), with a large hairless tail, like a rat, but was NOT a rat. Can anyone help identify this creature? Lead me to a website, to see photos? One person in my group suggested it was a 'Puerto Rican Squirrel', but my investigation has shown there are no such creatures here. I do know that mongoose where brought here many years ago, to help with rats in the Suger plantations, but both are long gone (rats & mongoose).

It is black, with four symetrical creamy white markings on the sections nearest its head (which looks like its bottom!!) and a small creamy white spike near its bottom (which looks like its head!!) It is about the length of my middle finger and about 1 1/2 times as wide. It was found in a garden in Surrey today. We have not seen anything quite like it and wonder if anyone has any sensible suggestions?
